Hi there -

New to forum, 2nd post after my intro.

Ok, here we have a hand me down .22/32 Kit gun my father left me from his collection. I've spent a few hours researching it and want to gain a little more standing about it.

Markings on it include:

On the frame inside of the yoke is stamped:
1
26068
2

On the inside of the yoke is stamped:

8909Z

I don't see a model number such as M34 stamped in the yoke.

The cylinder, under the barrel and the butt are stamped 27741.

Barrel length is 3-1/2. I'd call the butt rounded.

Here are a few pictures:

History of the piece. I don't know how long he owned it for, although I always remembered that this was in his collection. So he's owned since the mid-70's.

Based on my research and from what I read on the forum, such as here

http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-hand-ejectors-1896-1961/71292-22-32-kit-gun-pre-model-34-a.html

it was made between 1955 and 1958. As for the number of pins, screws please reference the images.

Condition, well there is some slight rubbing on the barrel end and wear on the cylinder. (I know this is a non-technical conditions description)

My primary question is, whats the proper model designation for this piece? I am assuming its .22/32 Kit gun or M34. Secondarily, whats the year of production? Based on the info I've read in the forum, its between 1955 and 1958. Is it a lightweight model? Finally, what might be a fair market value for it? I need some $ number I can give to my siblings so they don't think I'm making off with the family jewels. (To me its priceless since it reminds me of him)

If I am in error on any of these points, kindly tell me as I will appreciate it.

Thanks
Tim

From bracketing SNs on my list, yours looks like it shipped sometime in 1957. Model numbers had not started yet. I'll leave value estimating to others more knowledgeable.

"Model of 1955 .22/32 Airweight Kit Gun" built on the J frame, worth in the $650 range.
