That serial number indicates it was made at the tail end of 1959. It should be stamped Mod 34 in the crane; is it so stamped? It should also be an Improved I frame of the 1953 style and have a cylinder length of 1 1/4". If it's cylinder length is longer, then it's a J frame and should be stamped 34-1. Are you certain it's not renickled?

I have some more info it is marked model 34 no dash it is p & r. Cly. is 1" 5/16 long the nickel is not flaking but is a bit cloudy in spots grips are smooth with S&W in silver they do number to the gun, grips also have a little grain seperation. And has not been renickled. The gunsmith at the shop would rate it a strong 90%.
Thanks for any Help

Hey Mike,
I would buy it for that price. It's an Improved I frame which is a little more collectable than a J frame. To be a J frame, the cylinder would have to be a 1/8" longer, the frame would be 1/8" longer and the barrel would measure 4 1/8" instead of 4" like this gun. With no flaking nickle or dings, it might sell from $450 to $550 depending on the region of the country. But hard to commit without seeing it. Hope that helps.
