Hi All
Was in Cabella's Reno last week and in their Gun Library was a 22-32, Bekeart type, in reasonable shape except the very end of the hammer spur is broken off.
Enough of it left to cock it, shouldn't affect the shootability.
Told the guy there, a really helpful and friendly fellow that I thought the price was a bit high given the damaged hammer and noted that the same piece was sitting there a year and a half ago when I was in last. Hadn't moved.
He asked for an offer... said I would stew on it and get back to him.
Bottom line... what is this piece worth~ ? Serial was 40XXXX as I recall, so not one of the originals.
I see parts are hard to come by and pricey, then I gotta ship it
I have a C&R. so no transfer fees.
Have been looking at these for a while, but don't want to get diddled:)
Thanks in advance
Aloha

There are some very bright and very experienced folks on this forum-----helpful too---I think of them as the gurus. There are most certainly hundreds, if not thousands more who have a library which enables them to answer your inquiry after only a few minutes of research. That said, you really have to meet them at least half way.

The value of collectible firearms is impacted by three things--------condition, condition, and condition---invariably articulated by a statement of remaining, original finish---baring that, a statement of missing finish. Your description of "reasonable shape" leaves them scratching their heads-------which doesn't help you hardly at all.

Your move.

My guess original finish, maybe 80%. some scratches on the left side near the SW mark. The usual where somebody cleaned some rust with steel wool Seemed to be well used but functional.
They wanted $499.

Could not check to see if the stocks were numbered.
Not enough light to get a good look at the bore.
I know not much to go on.
A shooter not a museum piece

It's enough to go on.

My first recommendation is for you to go on to the next gun---wherever it may be---somewhere where they're not trolling for suckers. I would be astounded if Cabala's has $100 in that gun---if that. I was going to suggest offering $150 to $200, but life's too short to own an ugly gun; so let's go back to going on to the next gun. They made A BUNCH of these things---that other gun is out there waiting for you.

Kinda my thoughts Too.
Just needed some reinforcement.
Feel better walking now:)
Thanks all!!

I agree with Ralph, and your decision.

For one thing, hammers for those can be found, but it's tough and will take patience.

Then again, on the other hand, for just a shooter, there's easier replacements to get a functional hammer. Center fire hammers are available and simple to modify into a rimfire. The next higher level of replacement is to cut the spur off of a much more current hammer and weld to the original, you can use an I or J frame wide target hammer which is a big improvement over the original skinny spur.

If that's an option for you, and you just want a shooter than offer $150 to $200. You can always flip it when you find a better one. And you should be able to get $600 for a fully functional shooter with 80% finish.

I concur with Mr Ralph and Hondo44 as they know what they are talking about . There is a certain amount of satisfaction though from buying a firearm in less than wonderful condition and bringing it back to life whether as a shooter or a great looking but not collector grade gun . I have two collector grade guns but many dozen great looking shooter guns mostly my own work .One is my old 32/20 that I truly enjoy and shoot a lot but it is no collector grade gun on the other hand I have probably 400 bucks in the gun , parts etc plus several weeks of work in my shop .I have enjoyed every second of owning it from start to finish. Look at this as a hobby not as an investment and you will get way more pleasure from this whole firearm thing in my opinion .

In my area it is tough to find a shooter grade, adjustable sight 22 revolver for under $350. Even with the personal restriction of non high speed ammo if I bought that for $300 I could make some on it. If your location listed is where you are living I would guess you could as well.
