I have a question for you folks I have an early 22 kit gun aluminum frame and cylinder ser# 50xx...I have found that the empties are very hard to eject..is that normal..22 cbs no problem...my guess is the aluminum cylinder has something to do with this ..am I right? tell me what you think..

Thanks R.J.

I'd be interested to see a picture of that gun. Are you sure the serial number is 50xx? Is it marked as a Model of 1955 or as a Model 43?

John

What 22 ammo were you using ?
I have found that Federal seems to eject well these days in my 22 revolvers.

This has been reported but not by all users; trying a different brand of ammo or (possibly) lightly polishing the cylinder bores may help. With a 50xx serial number it would be an early one, possibly shipped in 1954.

On a 43, the cylinder is aluminum, but I doubt that that has anything to do with the problem. My 43 works fine.

I have a beautiful pre-34 that will shoot only CBs, Winchester Match Mk III, and just about any CCI ammo, including Stingers. Case mouth expansion on firing seems to be the issue, and rumor had it that CCI might use heavier brass in that area.

I had a 2" 34 that did that, also, and I got rid of it.

My K22 is a little picky, also, but not as bad the two Kit Guns.

I would try different ammo, starting with CCI.

Wow! Never knew that! I learn something new on here everyday. Now if I would just read more.....

thanks for the info I will try some CCI standard vel its an early one reports are that serial numbering began at 5000 this one is one of the first 50 if that is true. all matching, under barrel , on back of cylinder and grips I haven't figured how to post a pic yet

In my experience over many years most s&w 22lr revolvers are very sensitive to the particular cartridge rim thickness on on 22lr cartridges.

Buy as many different Brand of cartridges you can find and test them. You can actually see the difference in rim thicknesses. If they go in tight they will stick after firing. Rim thickness after firing thicker rims makes them stick. Also keep the reverse of the 'star' clean.

Don't give up!

RJN,

Your "Model of 1955 22/32 Kit Gun Airweight" built on the J frame has no model marking and was not stamped Mod 43 until sometime after mid-1957, so it's referred to informally as a Pre Model 43.

Because it does have an aluminum alloy cylinder, many years of shooting can develop a little indentation in the chamber at the point where all those fired rounds expanded at the case mouth.

If a change in ammo brands does not solve the problem, slight honing from the chamber mouth up to the area of the case mouth should do it.
