.22 Revolvers--Your Favorite/Most Accurate

this old K22 masterpiece is my favorite been shooting it for over 50 years
used it to hunt squirrels in my youth, rode my hip on many trips into the woods, it was hard chromed in the 70's after letting it set in a wet holster in the truck for a few days, literally had a ton of ammo shot through it and it is still a tack driver.

through the years it has won me a goodly amount of money, buy people betting me I could not it something with it

I have many guns, and if times get hard , this would be the last gun I would get rid of. period !!!

in fact it is setting beside me as I type with its original magnas on, it stays loaded for critters and such

I have an 18-4 4" TTT 1975-1980 vintage. I love it cause it looks good, feels good and shoots very accurately both single and double action. Only issue is tight chambers after it warms up. This seems to be a frequent issue with most if not all these models. Easy to overlook due to its other qualities. You wont be dissapointed. And theyre rising in vale.

As I mentioned in an earlier post I love my little 34-1 for walks in the woods but my 617 is an AWESOME back yard plinker. And it just got a whole bunch better looking with it's new Culina Royal Walnut grips. I shot the heck out of some beer cans today!

The K22 is my most accurate. The 22/32 is my favorite.

I have owned a few other rimfire revolvers including models 17, 18, 34, 35, 317, 617 and 63.

The two thoroughly used revolvers pictured would be the last two I would part with.

Well, I don't know whether you are fishing for confirmation of a model 18, or whether you really have a question there. Assuming the latter, I would answer that my choice, based on my experience and your question, is a Colt Diamondback 4" with Pachmayr Presentation grips. My first Model 17 might be better, but it has a 6" barrel. [My second Model 17, unlike my Diamondback but like many S&W .22 revolvers, doesn't function well with all ammo.] However, once we get away from the 4" K-frame specs, I agree with several posters that the H&R USRA Model is actually my best .22.

The local gun shop had a Model 18-7 that is very close to 100%. They were asking over $750 for it. Did some research and was able to talk them down to $600. Did I pay to much or to early?

The one I use to pinpoint is a HFT from the early '20s. Just always hits.

I've owned 4 or 5 K-22's and one 17.

My last K-22 from the middle 50's is super accurate and my favorite. I once sold a late 40's K-22 to a collector for twice the price of a new 17 and bought a new 17. I was sorry from the 1st shot on the 17. Sold the 17. Perhaps it was the lemon.

I once thought too long on an 18 and while thinking someone bought it.
I learned from that. I was in an LGS shortly thereafter and a guy was looking at pistols, he had a nice K-22 in his hands and eventually set it down and asked to see another. I asked if he was thru with the K-22 and he said yes. I picked it up and immediately had another employee write it up.

I have had several chances to pick up Colt Trooper types in 22 LR. They are basically on a 40 frame and heavy. I don't want to pack that much iron for fun.

Whatever you buy, if it is a 53, 17, 18, 48 or one of the Js it will work... Most important thing is how the gun fits your hand and balances for you.

I've owned most of them and now paring down to just a couple. Looks like what it will come down to are the following:

Model 53 6" with extra rimfire cylinder. This gun has been with me since 1974...

Model 63 that has an extra .22 Magnum cylinder. In addition someone put a Patridge front sight and smooth Combat Wide trigger on..

Model 35 that has an extra .22 Magnum cylinder...just a pocket rocket.

And the final one...will be either a 4" 48 with extra Long Rifle cylinder or a 4" 18 with a .22 Magnum cylinder. Both shoot great, just going to have to decide between the two...

Good luck in your quest...Bob

My first 22lr/22wmr revolver is a Ruger single six s/s.
My second s&w k22 6" 22lr 1948.
My third is a colt officers target model 22lr 6" built on the 41 frame.
After that many different H&R 22lr revolvers, from snubby, 4" & 6", top breaks, to flip out, to remove able cylinders. I think H&R holds the record on so many models.

I went over board for my 5yo grandson. Who knows what he can afford in 16 years?

AJ your 18-7 "Classic" is IIRC the new IL/MIM version of the old Model 18,
As far as accuracy and dependability should be 100% fine and a lifetime warranty to boot.

If I happen on one at a fair price it will join the stable if for nothing else to represent its place in the 4" K22's evolution,

I will add that older 4" K22's with forged internals can occasionally still be found in that price range and while they will not outperform your 18-7 on the range perhaps would be a slightly better investment as the pre IL guns tend to rise steadily in value.

Thanks for the information. The Lakeland Gun Show is in April. Will keep my eyes open there for a nice K Frame shooter.

Took the 18-7 to the range today. At 15 yards was able to keep all in a 3.5 inch bulls. hell getting old can't hold as steady as I once could. Still very satisfied with this revolver. Glad I bought it.
