Ok this was an impulse buy but a new RIA 1911 in 22TCM/9mm with an excellent trigger and adjustable sights for $554 out the door was a must have for me. Others must have caught on to the 12% off as I got the last one of 6 they had in stock.

I got it home and put the 9mm barrel, recoil spring and extractor in and 250 rds later still runs like a champ. I have not put it on paper yet this was 25 yards at a 6" steel target. They recommend a 500 rnd break in but the weather was nasty here today. Not one FTE or FTF and the trigger measured 3.1 lbs with zero creep and a fairly short but crisp take up.

The main reason I purchased it was for the 9mm as a standard RIA 9mm was running around $500 in my area. This one came with the extra barrel, recoil spring, extractor and adjustable sights. I am thinking I may be able to fit a 38 super to it as well:rolleyes:

Question here is do I buy several more boxes of the .22 TCM just to have in case it doesn't take off? Are dies and reloading supplies readily available? Any one have any experience with the .22 TCM? or should I just just throw the TCM barrel and ammo to the back of the safe and forget about it.

22TCM is an interesting cartridge. A 4 3/4" Commander has been released along with a rifle.

The 22TCM allows the performance of FN5.7 cartridge to be placed in the 1911 platform. The 5.7's projectile is too long to fit in a 1911 magazine

The factory has limited load data on their website and since (1 projectile, 1 powder) no SAAMI specification have been submitted yet, powder and projectile manufacturers are holding off developing load data.

I have been putting together jacket projectiles from 5 of the major manufacturers and working with a few cast bullet designs all for use in the 22TCM. Several powder manufacturers are helping/supporting my development but will not publish until SAAMI specs are finalized.

I am hoping to get all of the chronographing done this summer and get the article published before fall.

Dies have been made by 3 companies so far. Fred Craig at Ammo Supply Warehouse has the Hornady dies in stock right now.

Yes you can use 38 Super in the pistol with a barrel and spring change.

Put the TCM barrel back in it and run a few boxes of ammo through it before you store it away in the safe for later. You'll love it. The only thing I can compare it to is the rush of shooting a Model 53, only you have 12 more shots. It's a blast. Fast, loud, and accurate.

Ammo Supply Warehouse has brass and bullets. Brass is running about 20 cents and bullets are a dime.

I am loading the factory recommended load which is 10gr H110 with the factory 40gr pill. I soon as I pull the trigger on a chrono I plan on working up a load with Lil Gun.

I am loading on a Dillon xl650 with the Hornady dies. I did have to have 0.005 turned off of the bottom of the sizing die to get my reloads to fully chamber in my barrel.

Here is my thread on another forum on setting up the 650.

Colt ssa, I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your development. The February issue of Shooting Times has a good article with some load data also.

Several members at my local range have been playing with the 22 TCM recently. I've shot a few rounds, very accurate with virtually no recoil. 2 fellows that reload have said it is an easy straight forward cartridge to load.

Converting the RIA 22 TCM/9mm to also fire 38 super sounds interesting. Which lbs recoil spring would you need with the 38 super barrel?

My 22 TCM was sent back to RI on FEB 11th, still waiting to get it back. In the meantime due to a sale at my local Rural King, I'm a sucker for a sale:o, I purchased a Citadel in 9mm. I then took it to my local smith who with a few very minor adjustments, about 15 min, he fitted the 38 super barrel to it.

Due to the weather and work I have only put 50 rounds of 38 super through it. It had a few failure to feeds with the first mag but now seems to be running smooth. The only change was the barrel and a new 38 super 9 rd mag.

.38 Super is a 14# spring, same as 9mm.....

And yes, a .38 barrel SHOULD drop right in. Also, .38 Super mags USUALLY work with 9mm and are less expensive...

Would this work on a 22tcm with a double stack magazine?
