Hello,
I'm new to the S-W Forum and hope y'all can set me in the right direction...
I have a 22a (5.5" barrel) I bought new in 2006 at Academy Sports. To date, I have about 500-600 rounds through the gun, but it jams at least once or twice every 20 shots or so. Some jams are stovepipes, some are FTF and with some the round does not fully load, leaving the slide partially open.

I have tried many different kinds of ammo (at least 7), have cleaned and oiled it meticulously, and even brought it to our local gunsmith (his answer was, 'I don't know - it looks fine to me'.)

I hate to get rid of it, 'cause it fits me perfectly, but I'm sick of all the jams. Is there something I can try to free it up? Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks!

mine has done the same thing on occasion. I just switch to a different ammo and that usually takes care of it. If you haven't already, try some standard velocity ammo. That works beautifully in mine.

Very interesting information... Most of the ammo I have been shooting has been hollow points. I had tried CCI before, but it was the Stingers, which are hollow points. I'll buy a different kind of CCI tomorrow, and see what happens.

Thanks again - can't wait to give it a try.

I've had a similar problem when I fully load the mag. If I only load 9 rounds, my gun functions perfectly and is accurate.

When I first bought my 22A, it would jam at least once per magazine. I ended up taking a dremel with a wire brush attachment and removed the paint from where the slide and frame meets, plus the feed ramp. It has worked great ever since.

No Jams Here

I kinda did what the article said before I read the article (if that makes sense). My 1st trip to the range with my 22a I ran 50 CCI Mini-mags through it. No problems. After the 1st 50, I ran 150 rounds of Remington bulk (hollow points) through it. No problems. Seems like a little preventative cleaning and strategic lubing and polishing pays off. At this point, I really think the thing will eat anything! Great gun!:)

One thing to look for is some of the 22A mags seem to have poorly cut slots for the mag release mechanism.
This causes the rounds to ride higher than they should-when I cleaned up the slots my 22A mags is awesome in the reliability department

File under outside shot: a shooting buddy has a 22a. But whenever i'd ask him to bring it on the next range outing, he'd say no, said it jammed too much.

Finally talked him into bringing it out, sure enough, it jammed, different types of jams. But I noticed it felt a little funny when I'd insert a magazine, so I looked in the magwell saw a grip screw intruding. Seems the grips on his pistol used screws with 2 different lengths, slight difference. We switched screws around, quit jamming.

BTW, really liked his 22a, more than I like my Buckmark. Especially the sights. If I had it to do over again, I'd have bought a 22a vs the Buckmark.

The only HP's that my 22a likes to eat are mini mags,as far as round nose,it prefers federal champion rn 40.
