22LR bucket o' bullets

I agree with chief38's ranking of the good stuff, but I say that Winchester ranks the worst. Xpert makes thunderbolts seem worthwhile.

.22 is reasonable in quantity right now. I'm stocking up on cases of CCI Blazer and standard velocity. Free shipping deals are out there, and CCI has a rebate if you act now.

The cleanest shooting ammo of any caliber that I've used is, Fiocchi. In 22LR, Armscor is 2nd and what I usually go with since it is usually less expensive and more readily available.
Federal is OK too but, I steer well clear of their American Eagle brand in 22LR. I bought two 50 round boxes once because they were $2.99 each.
Out of the first 30 or so rounds, I had about 7 FTE's, 3 duds, 2 or 3 that barely had enough power to clear the barrel (hit the ground well short of the target) and 1 actually stopped in the barrel.
After I got my barrel clear, I tossed the rest of them in the garbage and never looked back.

22lr ammo brands all get good and bad smack against them. I have to say 22lr is probably the worst ammo for having guns being so picky about. What fires good in one gun might have all sorts of problems in another gun. So many trash Thunderbolt ammo but my MK Rugers have the least failures with it. As far as lead build up using lead bullets I have no problem with my handguns. I haven't even had a problem with my model 60 rifle leading.
I am hoping these Remingtons work okay. It has been a long time since I shot any of them. I mostly shoot Thunderbolts and have perhaps only a few dead rounds in a box of 500. I only use 22 for plinking so it's no big deal if I get an occasional ftf or fte.
I bought a brick of Aguila SuperSonic and they were total jammers in my Rugers that seldom if ever jam with Thunderbolt. A friend's Walther 22lr pistol loved them but would jam with the Thunderbolts. Go figure!

Afterwards I realized I could have bought 3 bricks of Thunderbolts totaling 1500 rounds for less than I paid for this 1400 round bucket of Remingtons. Oh well I wanted to try out some Remington 22lr so I can have at it now. Will see how well my Ruger MKs and Marlin 60 that seldom have problems shooting most 22lr will like them.
I will report my findings.

Buy now.

I buy CCI in .22 because it always performed so well, but I am an advocate of stocking up on any ammo you like and use. I think that in a very few years people will look back in amazement at the current prices and availability of ammunition.

Look to California as the template for what may be coming to your home town. No internate ammo sales, register to buy ammo, no importation of out of state ammo, limited availability at only a few licensed brick and mortar stores...It’s no joke folks. The California gun and ammo market was huge and choking off that market can only serve to hurt the availability and pricing for everyone.

I'm really surprised at the vitriol at the Remington Thunderbolts. That used to be the "go to" ammo for plinking because it was so inexpensive. I'm still shooting stuff I stockpiled in the '80s at $0.50 a box. Has it changed that much where it's now junk?

Shooting report.
These Remington shot well in my Marlin 60. There were a couple duds but they shot the second time around. Over all they did as expected for 22lr. A glitch here and there. I didn't have any feed problems with them in the 60.
In my Ruger SR22c I had a few stove pipes that I had to drop the magazine and the bullet was standing straight up from the magazine. Reinsert the bullet into the magazine and good to go again. My SR22 has a little bad taste for feeding them I guess. These are hollow points so the nose is a bit more flat than the round nose lead Thunderbolts. The Tbolts do feed better than these Remingtons do in my SR22.

Thunderbolts get a lot of bad rap but I haven't had what I would call a bad run of rounds in any bricks I have shot. I have shot more 22lr than any other caliber. I would say I might sometimes have 6 duds in a Thunderbolt brick of 500. Using Thunderbolt ammo I shot a rabbit from 50 yards using the iron sights on my Model 60 and put the bullet right below the rabbits ear. Gee I guess I had a good round.

I have to laugh at what some call junk ammo. I do feel it often isn't the ammo but rather some guns are just finicky towards the ammo.

I can say I got a bucket of bullets for little cost and not sorry I bought them. Next batch I will again be buying Thunderbolts though. Like some say...one man's junk is another man's treasure. I am still waiting to find a bottle on the beach with a Jeanie inside.

My model 41 decided it likes Remington Golden. But the 50 ct. pack has different specs than the bucket. They are not the same.

My Walter TPH copy, an old American Arms PX, only shoots Remington 22 accurately and without failures. Everything else in my stable of 22 pistols and rifles want CCI. Oddly one Ruger 10-22 likes Aquila 40gr. Again, go figure.

You're spot on here. IMHO, .22 semi-autos, both pistol and rifle, are much more finicky than any center fire caliber. I think the perfect guns for .22s, neither or which I own, are a double-action revolver and a pump rifle.
