I assume that most 22LR ammo velocity is advertised as being shot from a rifle with a test barrel of a given length. Does anyone know where I can find a chart or reference that will show what these ammo velocities would be from a pistol? I stumbled across one before but now don't remember where I found it.

Thanks.

I would imagine it's available online in a number of places. Check the Rimfire Central website. If they don't have a table, someone on that site can point you in the right direction. The annual Gun Digest publications used to have this information.

Any chart would probably just list industry standard velocities, as do most charts listing rifle velocities. I have chronographed lots of .22 ammo and it may be close to it’s listed velocities and maybe not. Do you have something specific in mind?

Fired 40 grain Remington thunderbolt from Keltec P17 the other day, chronoed at 1096.

33 grain Rem Hypervelocity from same gun was 1086.

Pistols are definitely slower than rifles. About 10-12 inches is the length where you stop getting appreciable gains in most pistol cartridges. As someone mentioned, BBTI is a good resource, but they don't cover all available flavors of ammo, but gives you a good idea.

You can find a lot of chrono info here on this forum for .22 LRs out of pistols - but you'll have to dig around. I've posted some: you might search on my name and "deviation" (as in "standard deviation").
