I have a 80's era 25-2 I have been using as a range gun. My M.O. is to shoot one gun for about six months until I can hit acceptable with it not a very good shot so that takes a while.

Learned a lot with this gun- about the various moon clips, moon clip loaders, de-mooners etc. And of course the gun its self. Its a 6 inch. I put a set of elk horn no bark grips on it Grashorn's I believe got them used. Pretty impressed with them. Ivory like sort of looking and have a good feel to them.

I like every thing about the 25-2 except the front sight post. I would rather have a ramped one rather than the target post that is on the gun. Looking at it, the front sight post appears to be brazed on and not pinned like some other N frame Smiths, and- it looks like it would be a fairly serious job to replace it.?

I would not modify the gun in any way unless it could be returned to stock.

Any input appreciated.

Thanks!

Earlier sights were pinned on but I believe the sight on your gun may have been forged with the barrel. At least the base was. S&W did not braze any sights on. A competent gunsmith should be able to look at your gun and give you some advice/options.

If its a square patridge type u
you can take some tape and tape off a few thin
lines on the back side. Then take a small
brush or q tip and apply paint color of yer choice to give you graduated sight lines to sight on...
