I bought a 25-2 this weekend. It is a 6 1/2 45 ACP with an N33 serial number. I think it was made around 76? My question is, I thought these barrels were marked 1955 but mine is marked 1950? Is this a variation/error on the factory's part? Any background info would be appreciated.

IIRC the mismarked 25's are worth a premium. I think N33 dates closer to 74.

Is it a bull barrel, or the pencil/thin tapered type? If it's a pencil barrel, it may have been replaced at some point with one off of a 1950 verion. Just something else to consider.

S&W roll marked 45 CAL. MODEL OF 1950 in error on several hundred to over a thousand barrels and used them on 25-2s that date to around 1976 (I assume youre s/n is in the N330000 range as N33 would date it to 1970). These guns are worth a slight premium to collectors of this model, but the amount will vary with the collector.
