Found this at the gun show it is by know means the prom queen and needed new springs and the grips that were on it are decent but had a nicer pair. Got it functioning as designed and took it to the range. Really enjoy shooting these 25-2s I was shooting a bit high at 20 yards adjusted it a bit, think its more the Indian not the arrow had fun.

They are great revolvers and fun to shoot. They came standard with a Patridge front site and TH and TT, although there are special order ones out there.
Tune yours in and enjoy.

Front sight

Nice. Can you post a close up of the front sight? Looks like a former Patridge sight modified into a ramp.

Yes it has been modified. The top of the ramped sight is still as high as the partridge sight so POI should not be affected by the front sight.

Heck, modified front sights mean the owner was serious about hitting where he aimed!

This S&W Model 25-2 has a modified front sight (among other modifications). It is nearly perfect.

My first "custom" revolver was a M27-2 that I had converted to .44 Special, using a 6 1/2" target barrel. The Patridge front sight ate up my holsters, so I filed it into a ramp, similar to the OP's revolver.

30 years later, I had it cut to 5" and a true ramp front sight installed.

The serial number is N316678 curious on the manufactured date?

Back in the early '80s, I bought a brand new in the (wood) box 25-2. I believe I paid $235 for it. Awesome gun. Shot hardball lie a dream, handloaded SWCs and even some hot JHPs. Later I got some Auto-Rim brass, which made for some interesting handloads. Loved that gun!

Sadly, that awesome gun was one of several lost when my apartment was burglarized. I later picked up a beautiful 1950 Target to replace it. When I bought it, the 1950 had a nice set of Roper stocks and a brazed "cockeyed" hammer. Unfortunately, though the craftsmanship, fit and finish of the 1950, made in the 1950s, was vastly superior to the 25-2, (1955 Target), the 1980s vintage 25-2 was much more accurate, at least it seemed so to me. Would have been sweet to compare them side by side.

My only example dates to 1980, IIRC.

Anyone have examples from both eras?
How do they compare in accuracy?
(I suspect accuracy varies but was more consistent in the earlier years.)

I really like the fit & finish of mine but again, have no experience with older examples (not for lack of trying). :)
