25-5 Grip Question

Hey folks, I’ve got an early 80’s 25-5 with Magnas on it, but I would prefer to put Targets on it. Its serial starts with N826xxx.

What would the correct target grips be? Football cuts, or the full relieved type? Recognizing it won’t me original, but I figured I would try to “make it correct.”

I had a 6" then a 4" 25-5. the 6" came with checkered targets with football cut out and the 4" came with Smooth Target stocks with football cut outs. Wood was GA

Targets with Football cutouts if before about 83.
Targets with speed loader cutouts after that.

Both of my 25-5s were shipped around 79/80 and came with the football cutout.

I don’t think so, I’ve ever seen any come with magnas.

I have owned several 25-5's. All of them came with checkered target grips with the football cutout as shown in CH4's pictures. I bought one of them new, it stated that the grips were made from Goncalo Alves.

According to Jim's book, SCSW, they came with targets with no mention of magnas.

Well, “it came with Magnas” from the guy I bought it from. . It does have a target hammer and trigger though.

Target hammer and Target trigger do not mean you HAVE to have big fat ugly stocks. The Model 1950 45 ACP Target revolver came with Magnas.

I have added grip adapters to both the Model 1950 and the Model 1955 revolver as they are the preferred combination for me.

You need the GA Target stocks with the football cut. My M25-5 is N824234 and came with that type.

I prefer targets to Magnas, all my other N frames have targets. (Long fingers.).

I took the Targets off mine and installed magnas. They fit my hand better and the relatively mild recoil (compared to the +40 magnums) is very manageable. But no, the targets aren't for sale.

It’s all about hand fit, assuming you’re gonna shoot it.

Guys with small to medium hands like the "dinky" Magnas, Those of us with large to XXL hands much prefer those "big, fat, ugly" targets

Late 25-5's

There will be some very late 25-5's with the relieved grips. They will be in the N900000+ range.
