I ran across a 27-2 with a 5" barrel. Timing and lookup are fine, target grips are rough. The big thing is the whole gun except for the trigger and hammer has been bead blasted. I thing it was nickel originally. Now it looks like a dull stainless. Is it worth $500? Would it be worth factory refinshing? How much does that typically cost. Thanks for the help.

They are a fine gun, I have one. However if you were to buy it with the idea of refinishing it back to original, from many areas of thinking it would be far more cost effective to take the money of the price of the gun, the cost of refinishing it, and buy a used/new one. I bet it could be done and it would be worth far more than the gun you are considering.

+1 on what he said as once they are refinished the value falls off significantly and refinishing is a losing position. The future resale will always be upside down in terms of cost.

For that price if you shop for the same money you can get a Model 28-2 with 4 inch barrel which is the same gun mechanically except for a flat blue and no steel checkering on the top strap. Or you can pay a little more ($100 to $150) and get a 27-2 with 5 inch barrel that is original in excellent condition.
