I was looking at a 27-2 nickel to buy until I noticed the extractor rod head is buggered up like someone used pliers on it.

The rest of the gun is in good condition.

What does it take to replace the buggered part?

I can't stand to look at it like it is.

Parts/cost?

Thanks

It would drive me nuts too! I don't know exactly how much but I am guessing $20-$30 for a extractor rod maybe less if you can find one used. Very easy to replace just don't use pliers on the new one! They just unthread like a bolt. Place a WTB ad here as surely someone has one in their parts box or call S&W.

Hey Denny, be sure to remember that it has a left handed thread. Have some empty cases in the chambers to give some back up when you unscrew the rod.

I went ahead and bought it and so far I have no regrets. What a nice shooting gun!

No idea of vintage, N47900* anyone help?

I do think it has been fired but it could pass for new if the extractor rod wasn't buggered up. It is still just finger tight.

I will try a WTB ad because I sure need one.

I have been shooting an 8" Python a lot but this 27-2 will give it some competition. I really like it.

Thanks

a quick check at brownells turns up many, unfortunately not the one you need. a google searche ended up dry as well.

I'd start with your first thought and see what turns up....... wtb on this site.

I once had a nickled 29-2 that had a bent rod. Forget the factory, that well must have dried up years ago, so far as replacement parts for 35 year old guns. Instead, they took a SS steel extractor rod, polished it a bit, and used that. Unless you were looking for it, you couldn't really tell the difference. Just one option.
