I am looking at a 27-2 four inch nickel Smith . It is as new. I believe it has been fired , but looks pristine. What were the production dates, begining and ending , for it's run. I thought they had pinned barrels , but this one doesn't . Did Smith make another run of these in the last several years ?
What would be a fair price for a gun in this shape ?
This might be in the wrong spot if it is a later model gun .

Th -2 guns were made from '62-'82 give or take. Without the pin I would guess it was a really late "transitional" to a -3 gun. Although I think it is more likely to find those characteristics on a -3 than a -2.

More responses should be had in the 62-82 section of this board I would think. I believe 1979? Was the end of the 3 1/2" gun to be replaced by the 4. On GB they seem to trade between $1000-$1200.

Earlier 4" guns exists but would have been special order items and would be sure to have been both pinned and recessed if factory.

Thanks for the information . I think I'm going to pass on it , but it sure is a beautiful gun.

Yes, without the barrel pin it's a transitional gun. It's still a 27-2 because it has recessed chambers.

I agree with Mike C2's value estimates. The 4" 27-2 is a desirable configurations and was only offered in the last few years of production. The non-pinned version is even more scarce and might bring a little more to someone looking to fill a spot in their collection. It seems that there were more of these in nickel than blued. The original box and papers would certainly be a plus.

They are asking 1200 or 1300 dollars for it. I don't remember exactly . No box or papers.

I just recently got a 27-2 nickel 4" . I paid $700, but its p/r.

-2 4"ers made between 79 and 81. Pinned barrels eliminated in 82.
