If you would like damage be sure to use a metal polish.
The ProShot metal polishing cloth is soaked in some sort of clear liquid that wipes the cylinder marks right off without damage to the bluing. The package says safe for factory blued finishes. It was recommended to me by someone on the forum.

There is no damage. Just a cleaning issue which is no problem for stainless revolvers, but blue revolvers need something like the ProShot metal polishing cloth to remove the marks.
If the blued surface has to be scrubbed to the extent that the bluing is removed along with the firing residue, I would consider that damage.

And that is the reason I use the ProShot metal polishing cloth. It does not remove any of the bluing. It is not a polishing compound or anything. Just a soft cloth pre-soaked in their clear liquid. A couple wipes and the crud is gone. And the bluing is just fine. It says right on the label that it is safe for factory blued finishes.
