1973. I have a 28-2 N101XXX.

Just my $.02

Military-Man, have you left out a digit?

"The Book" has the following entries:
N1 ... 1969-1972
N100000 ... 1973

So 1973 is right if your s/n is N10133x. If it is as you gave it, the DOM would be earlier.

The book referenced is The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Jim Supica & Richard Nahas.

Someone may have lettered one with a fairly close s/n, so they could say more exactly, but if I had to take a guess I would say YOM was 1969 or 1970.

Model 28-2, serial number N925, was shipped on May 1, 1970. Based on that, I would estimate your revolver was shipped in late 70 to early 71.

Mod 28

Yesterday I acquired a Model 28, 4 ", with a SR # 8##. I assume it is first year of manufacture. What year did they start making them? It came with an incorrect Mod 27-2 box, original paperwork, wide trigger, and butey smooth coco bolo full grips.

Sorry for the poor picture quality. My cameral doesn't do well indoors.

It's good to be back after a few year's absence.

TX,

Welcome back.

The Highway Patrolman (5-screw pre-28) was introduced in 1954.

That appears to be a later one. 8xx may be an assembly number. Ther serial number should be something like N######.

BBJW...Your Highway Patrolman (probably a 28-2) is a nice looking example, but without a better representation of the serial number it is impossible to date it.

The model was introduced in 1954 at serial number S103500.

If it is only three numbers N8xx would be from 1969 or 1970.

Call S&W CS at 800 331-0852 with your serial number and they can give you a ship date.
