I have a 1966 era S&W Model 28-2 "Highway Patrolman" that I suspect the firing pin bushing needs to either be repaired or replaced. My understanding is that the bushing should be flush with the face of the recoil shield, mine in slightly recessed. This will occasionally allow a spent primer to ever so slightly back out of the case thus binding up the whole cylinder.

Who can do this repair? I would surely appreciate any leads/recommendations.

If you are the original owner (and can prove it) the factory might even do this as warranty work.

Worth a try...

A few years ago the factory replaced the hammer nose bushing on my 1974 model 27 as part of a factory tuneup to bring it back to as-new specs. I recommend you send it in to them and let them go through your 28 and refurb it while they are replacing the hammer nose bushing.

Talked with S&W Tech Support..... they suggest sending it to either Cylinder and Slide or Clark Custom.
