Welcome to the forum. Your HP comes from 1973. They are known for being great shooters. If you've got a little time check out this thread about HPs.

He's only showing 5 digits in the serial number.
We're both wrong. The book shows
N1...1969 - 72 and then
N100000...1973 so his would be in the first listing. I'd guess about 1970/71.

It was shipped in 1972. Fine gun as you already know. It's and N-frame utilitarian version of the highest regarded Model 27, same gun, slightly duller finish and less embellishments. Hope that helps.

Welcome to the Forum. I don't think we've had a member from "Corruptsville, Ill." before :D

Does your M28 have a 4" or 6" barrel? Those are the only two lengths commonly encountered.

Yours should be worth a pretty penny, being in like new condition. It will have no problem firing all factory loads of the .357 and any sane handloads you may create. It is a very strong revolver.

Welcome to the Forum !

The basic "rule" around here is if you ask a question about a "like new"
5-digit N-frame you must post several photos along with your question !!! ;) ;)

Enjoy your new 28 ! :)

Jerry

So I guess that places my.44 Spl-converted 28-2, #N8023, about '69, eh ?

What is the correct price range for a like new Highway Patrolman?
Thanks

I have the 6",wish it was a 4" but love it regardless. My uncle is a dealer,a friend of his recently passed that was a huge collector. His wife was selling all guns and offered my uncle first dib's.I went with him to look at them, this guy had 100's of gun's bought new and most never fired.I picked up a like new unfired 622,659,P-89,P95 and the 28-2.I feel I stole the 28-2 at $450.If I run across a 4" in good shape I will buy it.

I will get some pics up soon

So if I can get a 28 6 inch NIB For $700 I should do it?

Hi rogo,
I used to be one of those "never pay more than500 bucks for a 28" guys. I've been watching prices go up over the past 5 years on every model of revolver out there, though, and am coming to the conclusion that Highway Patrolman models are and have been way under priced. I think you would be very happy with the gun, and 700 is not that unusual a price for them these days.
