Came across a real beauty today in LGS... a blue model 28-2 4in.barrel.with original wood grips,it has just a faint turn line on cylinder and overall I would say it is in very nice
condition. The sticker price is $600.00 and they won't budge.Buy it or let it go?

Sounds high in my area. Maybe if it were in great shape, box, tools and papers. But everything is too high these days...

They will not budge because they know that sooner or later someone will pay that price.

Can you name another 4" N-Frame magnum in that condition that would sell for that price? I sure can't.

It comes down to whether you want to overpay $50-$100 to get one now or continue to search for a better deal.

Have you seen a lot of these in your area or do they seem to be scarce?

Its pretty much a sellers market for classic S&W revolvers, I think they know that. I would be willing to bet IF its still there in a few weeks they would probably move on their price.

I would definitely pay $600 for a no dash 4" model 57 in that condition, but not that much for a 28-2
My opinion, worth what you paid for it.

Considering what a new classic would cost, IL, lam Grips, Mim trigger and hammer,,,, I think 600.00 is a good price to pay for a TRUE classic thats hasn't been made for several years now.

Buy it or you'll be sorry, I would,,,,,,,,,

I paid $650.00 for a really nice one, with the box and some of the papers, about a year ago. It was the first one I had seen in a long time. Since then I have seen a grand total of zero (0) others.

Yea. I might have overpayed for it, but I haven't shed any tears over it either.

Thanks guys for your input, and your right Jack Flash if you want it bad enough you will pay the price.I haven't seen any so they must scarce in this area.

bronx, just my 2 cents worth, but if you look at other 28 threads, they can still be bought as low as $400. I won a no dash recently on GB for $450. It is a 1960 gun w/6" barrel. My F.F.L. was impressed with it when he checked it over. It is all about being at the right place at the right time as they say! Bob

$600 is a bit on the high side but if it's super clean it's not over the top to high.

I bought this about 6 months ago with box, papers, and Magnas, for $495 in Indy. Our prices are ALWAYS higher than other cities. Condition is an easy 95%. $600 is WAY too high. That is getting close to 27-2 prices.

I waited about a year to get a 28-2 for under $400. it was worth the wait. from HBWCs to 180gr. sil. projectiles in .38/.357. its accurate and easy on the wrists. gun is about 90%. aftermarket grips and some muzzle wear from holster. i can live with that. W.C.

I bought my 28-2 for $450 and paid another $30 for a set of diamond magnas. $600 is a bit high, but at the end of the day, if it is something you want and the price tag is something you can live with, get it. It looks like 28s are flying off the shelves whenever they appear, so who knows when the well will dry up.

They have a beater 28-2 4 incher in the local shop for $575. Same shop three months ago had the same model at least 95% for $375.00. I asked the salesman why so cheap. He stated the customer didn't like the looks. I did and he threw
a Kydex holster also. Like those 28's. Three and counting.

true..better deals on 28s are out there.

I had tried to sell a 4" 28-2, w. box and in excellent condition for $550...then $500. posted it on this site and elsewhere, but no takers. took it to a gun show, priced to sell at $450...no takers.
But all is well. A gentleman traded a very nice 1953 Combat Masterpiece for it.

I paid $530 otd for a 6in mint no box or papers.I got mine in nov 2011 the price is going up.I would buy the 4 in thats my next buy.The 4in seem to be rare in my part of the woods.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones lately.

Bought a 28-2 in it's box with papers from a fellow last week for $400.00. Gun is at least 98% had correct numbered Magnas, Pac Combats, and a model specific Bianchi holster. The gentleman had bought it new in the late 60's.
