I have a 28-2 that is about 95% condition. A previous owner replaced the S&W rear sight with a Behlert target sight. I am thinking about selling the 28 and wondered if, in y'all's opinion, the Behlert sight would enhance or detract from the value. Thanks

From the looks, that 28 is a shooter grade piece, not a collectible (is any 28 a collectible?)so to me it would be a push, or I might pay a slight premium for the Behlert sight... just my $0.02.

Regards...

Personally, it would detract for me but I'm sure there is someone who likes it and would swap you for a factory one.
My only concern is.............that front screw looks bigger than std. Hopefully the original tapped frame hole has not been modified or worse yet, a new additional hole made.

Are there any other mods to the gun? If it's looks like Austin might have worked on it, you may be able to get a premium for it.

Personally, for a shooter, I'd prefer the Behlert sight, but I'm a fan of his work.

Hey I'll give ya $250 for the gun. It is all screwed up with that dumb sight someone put on it. "DUMB SIGHT YOU SAY???" Don't you know a Behlert adjustable rear sight sells for $200 on the open market and It was installed by a competent GunSmith (add a ficticious name),and he is world famous..I'll take $600 for it and thats cheap. ..........Thats how to sell your revolver friend. Good Luck.

Thanks for the comments. This raises an interesting question for me. I have spent a fair amount of time on line trying to get a line on the Behlert sight. I am very familiar with Behlert of course, but I can't find anything on his sights as a parts upgrade. What value do they have and is there an "open market" for them. I ask because I also have, from the same previous owner, a Model 14 and a Model 18 with Behlert sights. There are no other modifications besides the sights.

I've never seen any for sale, so I have no idea what the market rate would be, unfortunately.

Here's one of his sights on a Browning HP, that Austin himself modified.
