Took the wife shopping yesterday for our anniversary. She got a couple pieces of furniture and a few household accessories. I kept my comments to myself and went along without complaint. On the way home I asked if we could swing by the LGS to see if they had anything new in the case as I hadnt been there in 2 weeks because of work. She said since I had been patient while she shopped she was fine with waiting in the car while I checked out the LGS. My LGS rarely has much in the way of S&W revolvers for 2 reasons: the snow birds keep them up north and 2, one of the guys at the shop is a big revolver fan and he snags all the good stuff before it hits the sales floor. Lady luck was smiling upon me however and the shop had just bought a ton of guns from a sheriffs evidence sale as well as a bunch of police trade ins. they had a full case of 66's, 14, 15, 10, Blackhawk, Security Six, etc. As I looked over the case trying to process what was a sight I had never seen there before I spied a large frame revolver on the second shelf. I asked to check it out and low and behold it was a 29-2 6". I gave it a good look over and it appeared to have been shot very little. There is no flame cutting and the turn ring isnt thru the bluing. There are a few scratched on the barrel but nothing bad. Lock up and end shake are excellent. I looked over the price and handed it back knowing that I had spent a bunch on guns over the last 6 months and hadnt even sold the ones I promised I would to offset the ones I had already bought. I walked back out to the truck and my wife asked me "nothing good?". I told her about the 29 and she asked if I wanted it. I told her it would be a nice addition but that I knew I was on gun time out. She smiled and said that if I wanted it, I should go back in and buy it as a anniversary present from her. I gave her a kiss and did just that. I have a great wife and now a pretty nice 29-2. I have other .44 but no 6" so its a very nice and classic addition to the collection. Before anyone asks, I may have bought a bit early. I paid $795 (no box, docs or tools) but based on the pricing trend on prelock Smiths, I dont think I would ever have trouble getting my money back. Spending a few hours milling around the mall turned out to be a darn good investment of my time. :D

Furniture and a gun on the same day? Good on ya. That's two or three year's worth of payments for me. (The furniture, not the gun. Gun comes home Day 1; I eat bologna Days 2-365 : )

And uh... where's the pic?

I beg 1000 pardons. :o Please excuse the crappy phone pics, I'm still working on a light box.

Lady luck was smiling upon me ..... :D

Lady luck was not only smiling on you, she was sitting in your truck.

Now that's an anniversary present.

Great story. Thanks for the great idea. I'm taking my wife furniture shopping on our anniversary.

795?
Bought too early?
That 795 price tag was ANOTHER gift!

Gun is a beauty and price is EXCELLENT ++++!!!

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary!

Turn it around on your wife, ask her why she has so many shoes. You can only wear one pair at a time.
Tell her you are also investing in your retirement. With the current trend in S&W revolvers, your guns are probably out performing your IRA or savings account.

I recently sold an 8 3/8" blued M29-2 (circa 1977) with presentation case on Gunbroker. I had a total investment of $800 in the gun and case. A fellow from Michigan bought is for my asking price of $1,300.
I had owned the gun for about six months. I netted $425 after fees were deducted. My bank would have probably paid me about $2.50 in interest for that same amount in my savings account over the same time frame.
Some people are skepticle about the current pricing trend, but it is fun while it lasts. Besides I can't take my savings account out to the range each weekend like I do my "Smiths".

You guys with these wives are killing me. Mine just wants to know why I want another gun.
Congrats on the gun and wife.

Well you could tell her it's cheaper than another wife!
