If it is for long term storage would a borestore be good without any oil on the exterior?

What is "Ren-Wax"? I googled it and what came up is Renaissance Wax: Renaissance Wax Rust Preventative Gun Stock Polish

I have never used this stuff before. It says "micro-crystalline" - is this abrasive?

I love it. A little goes a very long way. Maybe 3 fingertips of wax to do everything. Including the grips.

That's a nice looking 29-2. Nice grips too. They are one of my favorite Smiths right after the 27's

I mention this just for your information, that box is for a 1974-1978 time frame gun.
If your 44 is from 1969, the correct presentation case would be flocked foam top with a flocked Styrofoam molded bottom with the tool slots.

Not sure about your bottom, looks to have a covering over it, but the top is the molded plastic insert from the 74-78 time frame.
