29-2 question

Just got my first 29-2 at the gun show today. And it's in great shape was wondering what type of gun oil is good to use on the bluing. I always use eezox or break free clp on my other guns and was not sure what is safe or what everyone else uses thanks for the help

I have been using only Remington oil since the early 1980's ,for both general oiling and long term storage without a problem.

I've used Break Free for decades on every firearm I've had, including blued, nickel, and stainless steel Smith's. Great results.

Now, if I'm not going to shoot a revolver "for a while" I'll give it a couple coats of Ren Wax.

I don't use any kind of oil on the exterior. Instead I use Ren-Wax.

Gun oil on the inside,...Ren-Wax on the outside...Blackrock+ Ren-Wax on the Leather and were good to Gooooo!!!............................................M*

I don't put lubricant on the bluing ..... just a wipe down with a Pro Shot Products Silicone Cloth.

Bill, have to agree with you on Clenzoil. The jar of pads is the way to go.

What is "Ren-Wax"? I googled it and what came up is Renaissance Wax: Renaissance Wax Rust Preventative Gun Stock Polish

I have never used this stuff before. It says "micro-crystalline" - is this abrasive?

Ren-Wax...... Buy some, you'll love it. A less expensive alternative, which I now use after years of using Ren is good old fashioned Johnson Wax.

That's the stuff. If it's abrasive, I've never seen any evidence of it. A lot of museums use it.

Rem Oil has been my "go-to" preservative for all my blued guns for years. For cleaning the bore & chambers I use both CLP & Hoppes 9.....after cleaning, the bore & chambers are given a mop swab of Rem Oil. For anything that needs grease I use Hoppes gun grease.

Any oil will work fine, simple or expensive makes no difference. Apply lightly to a cotton cloth and wipe the gun down.

I like renwax and use it on the blued ones I don't shoot. I have noticed that if I have a coat of renwax on nickel guns before shooting they seem to clean up with much less effort.

On the shooters after cleaning bore and cylinder from all fouling I put a couple drops of CLP on my finger and rub it over all exposed metal including the trigger and hammer. This is not the only way to protect your revolver but this is what works for me.

I've used Hoppes #9 solvent and Hoppes gun oil on my blued S&W revolvers for decades.
Simple and works well.
