29-3 Broken Hand, Who sells them?

Hi,

The cylinder stopped rotating on my 29-3. I took the sideplate off and it looks like the pin the hand pivots on has broken off.

Does the S on the hand mean it is a standard size and not an oversize? Where is a good place to get a new hand from? I looked it up on Brownells, and it says discontinued.

I thought I would get a new spring that tensions the hand while I'm at it, along with a copy of the book everybody here recommends "The S&W Revolver: A Shop Manual". Are there any other parts I might want to have on hand? http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc71/Ivorykid/Hand2.jpg[/URL]

The "S" stands for stainless steel. If the cylinder indexed correctly before the pin broke you will need to get a new hand that is the same thickness. Measure the thickness where the hand contacts the ratchets with a dial caliper or micrometer. I doubt you will need to replace the hand spring.

Here is the one under 29-3 and it said it is for a 25. they are the same.

I would start by calling S&W. They have a lot of old parts still available. They may even fix the gun free of charge because factory part is broken.

210570000 $13.55 -3 HAND, OVERSIZED
You may want to call S&W and see about getting the right one for your gun. The oversize hands are for guns that have somewhat worn extractors. They will tighten up a slightly loose lock-up.
