After reading about bear encounters here it jogged my memory.
I forgot I had a 44 mag. Went to the gun safe I found it buried.
As the title says its a 44Mag no box & it has been in a zippered soft case & never been fired (yet)
Any idea?
I was going to use my .45 S&W Shield PC. but with 2 pics of black bears on trail cams here & then my neighbor stopped by while I was getting the mail & said he had pics of a 400Lb+ & warn my sons & grand kids.
I took it in on a trade & can't find a value for it.
BTW will not sell it.

I recently bought a 29-2 4" nickel for $1600, no box & papers, also non original stocks. It is in pristine condition. Maybe you can use this as a measure.

There were some posts recently about bear encounters, and inside was some factual info on 100+ bears that had to be shot and killed with handguns (mostly out west or Alaska). The info talked about the calibers that were most effective, and the best were .357 Magnum and up. I think that most folks in bear country feel adequately protected with handguns chambered in 10mm, .41 Magnum, .44 Magnum, and .45 Colt. I'm sure that .460 and .500 would be excellent too , but a little tougher to control. Although .45ACP is definitely a man stopper, it doesn't work quite the same on thick skinned and thick skulled bears. You would be well armed with your 4" Model 29, but make sure you put some rounds through it before you decide to carry it for protection. You'll need a good holster...perhaps a chest rig for quick access while you're outside or hiking in the woods. Value wise, I think 1911haulic is in the ball park. His pinned and recessed nickel 29-2 is a little more desirable than your 29-3, so maybe $1200. BTW- get yourself some Bear Spray, too...it's a less lethal alternative. Remember, you're in the bears' habitat and they're just trying to survive and raise their cubs. Be safe!
