My local gun store called me the other day and told me they had a consignment gun that they thought I might be interested in.

I went over and they brought this out…

Barely a turn ring and no muzzle wear, I think it may be unfired.

Nice find I just got one a month or so ago still have not had the chance to fire the thing but will be soon with the silhouette matches were starting.

This makes my 3rd Silhouette. Rbmac52 is correct, The barrel is 10-5/8". I'm pretty sure all Silhouettes are that length.

You are so lucky to have the original presentation box.

I guess I was confused about the Model 29 with an adjustable front sight being available in other barrel lengths. It was the Model 586 that was available with the adjustable front sight in both 6" and 8-3/8" barrels.

I got mine a couple of months ago , lnib , one sweet shooter . I don't reload , so mine are all store bought . I have some Remington 180gr , 1610 fps , when they let go you know it . Tried some Georgia Arms 300gr , 1325fps , it didn't like them too much . Now the GA 200gr , 1650fps , it was happy with also . I shoot it at 100 & 200 yards and have no problems hitting steel . You're going to enjoy that 29-3 , but it is a handful carrying around .

Could you post a picture of the front of the case? If not, does it have the Smith emblem on the front? Very nice revolver. Enjoy it. I'm a little partial to theses bad boys.

Some people just like to show off ALL of their Silhouettes at the same time!

I believe the OP has the 1st type Silhouette case which is missing the tool compartment lid and has some type of black cloth covering the liners! The case should appear like the lower left and lower right cases in RT44Nut's picture

Did they all come with presentation box3s ? Mine came in the usual blue box , had the tools , paperwork , all of it . Just no presentation case . The condition of the gun and box , I figure the owner bought it and put it in the safe . If he went to all that trouble , I figure he would have saved a case to if it came with one .

Here is a pic of mine and it did come with a presentation case. No symbol on the case and it needs to be relined. I'm under the impression that none of them came with the case they had to be ordered separately. But I could be wrong and probably am!

Maybe someone will add more information.

I would think you are right about cases being sold separately. I've researched through old revolver and accessories pamphlets and found 4 versions of the cases offered for the silhouettes. I don't think a lot of them are out there. I was fortunate and 2 of mine came with the fitted cases. I made the case in the middle, purchased the others, and refurbished the linings. I don't have one with the emblem in the lower right corner.(yet)

Presentation Cases

The practice of shipping N frame guns in a presentation case was stopped about 1983. Any case for the Silhouette guns would have been purchased as an aftermarket item! The two early cases were the one that has a preformed bottom and tool compartment. The second type has the S&W logo in the lower right corner of the outside top and uses a light blue foam for the interior. The case for the Silhouette has the grip form in the bottom liner

Hahaha, reminds me of my Ruger M44 Carbine semi-auto 18.5" I'm looking at right now... We have a nasty Coyote problem here and they are after my German Shepherd this time of year. They both the Carbine and Shepherd keep us safe from them.
