After reading about Geico and their apparent anti-gun stance I started looking at myself and the companies that I do business with. I want to spend my money ONLY with companies and institutions that support 2A rights. So starting with insurance I started calling around.

I called USAA and they are very attractive but in my case it would cost a bit more (15% more). I called Amica and have quotes for auto/home insurance and they have an action to respond to my question about 2A rights and position on gun control.

During this process I went to the NRA website to get a list of "gun friendly" businesses and was suprised that there really wasn't one at a National level that addressed things like Insurance companies. Curious to me.

Many of us have written letters and are active in this recent political attack. Taking it to the next level seems appropriate and this is to use our money appropriately. Where can we go or maybe we should start a sticky post or something that would identify gun friendly/2A friendly businesses.

I personally would go out of my way and perhaps even spend a touch more to ensure that none of my hard earned money goes to a company or institution that does not support 2A rights. Imagine the financial impact of 117 million gun owners refusing to do business with those companies who do not support gun rights and oppose additional gun control.

I try to research most companies I support with regard to my political beliefs. Most are smart enough to expose themselves as having a political agenda. Vote with your dollars.

Ok, I'm putting my money where my mouth is. I switched from Amica to USAA for my home insurance with stand-alone policy for my firearms. It cost me about 12% more BUT when I read my Amica policy I found a few curious things and then in the phone call when I asked about the $2500 maximum allowed firearms protection I was told that firearms in excess of this amount would require an underwriter decision.

USAA on the other hand uses my discharge date from the US Navy as one of their security questions. They kindly pointed out that carrying a stand alone firearms policy means ZERO deductible since it was not tied to a property insurance policy. How sweet is that.

Next step is to figure out my auto insurance and the chances I will move that to USAA also even though it is a bit more expensive.

Did I mention I really like the USAA approach!

disclaimer: I am NOT associated with USAA or any other business. I am just working to put my money and patronage behind pro 2A businesses and institutions and chronical my efforts for whatever it may be worth.

I sent a email to Geico asking about the widely posted situation regarding someone who was declined coverage for being in a firearms related business. The message and response from Geico:

---message to Geico---
I am currently a Geico Auto Insurance policy holder. I have been with
Geico for many years. It has recently come to my attention that Geico
has cancelled policies of people who are affiliated with the firearms
industry. Please clarify to me in writing Geico's position related to
gun ownership and the second amendment of the constitution. My continued patronage of your business depends on your prompt response.

---response from Geico----
We spoke with the policyholder in December and there was some
misunderstanding/confusion on our part on how he used the vehicle. We
have reached out to the policyholder and hope that we can clarify usage
of the vehicle and continue his policy.

---My reply, still unanswered---
Please clarify to me Geico's position on gun ownership, Second Ammendment rights, and any procedural or policy limitations that might be placed on those associated with the firearms industry.

--My reply to the just arrived email "It is time for you to update your GEICO policy. They want me to update all my personal information. So I responded to them:----

it is time for Geico to respond to my request for clarification on Geico's positions related to the 2nd Amendment. At this time I am considering what businesses I will continue to patron, including Geico. I have already moved one insurance policy due the anti-gun positions and I am awaiting Geico's response to my request for information before deciding whether to continue my insurance policy or not.

I will not do business with companies that are either supportive of gun control measures that violate the 2nd amendment or take an ambivolent posture. The compainies that receive my business are supportive and active in the protection against those who would seek to punish law abiding citizens because of the actions of criminals.

Please clarify your position on the above items if you wish my continued business.

--I am still waiting for a reply but have already developed a backup plan for my auto insurance needs.

I have been looking at my bank next. I use wells fargo and can't find any data where they have taken a position on 2A rights. I have made up my mind that my money will only be spent at businesses and institutions that support 2A rights. Companies that take a "we don't get involved with politics" stance will not get my money either.

I would love to find a 2A Friendly ranking of businesses and institutions somewhere but it seems not to exist. Like I said earlier, I would pay a bit more to patronize only 2A friendly places.

I'm going top to bottom with all places that get my money and making changes. Unfortunately, living here in the DPRC the biggest pull on my pocketbook comes from <demeaning term deleted> our legislature...spit, sputter, cough, gag.

SanJoseScott,

I recently started doing similar things with places I do business with. An example of this is Amazon.com. I'm a college student and purchase most of my textbooks from them. As soon as I learned they were pushing gun "buy back" programs, I refuse to do business with them anymore.

Same goes for some of the local banks/credit unions when I was refinancing my truck last year. Had a chat with one of the branch managers for the credit union here about their no weapons policy. Decided to go with one that supported my right to carry.

Gun owners all should have the same attitude that we do instead of assuming it won't make a difference.

Interesting. I use Amazon but use the shop42A dot com entry portal that actually provides a donation to a California 2A activist group here in CA (I hope I didn't cross any lines posting that).

I use Amazon through The 2nd Amend. Foundation. Buy Mas Ayoob books from Amazon, and I'm insured with GEICO as an LEO. Now I am really confused.
