I'll have to whip up something nice to tote it around in. Not sure what yet, but I'll make up something!

Here's one I traded for couple months ago. I've only shot .44 Specs in it so for. It must be a monster with .44 Mags. I have one of the .357 8 shot Niteguards with the light weight scandium frame. Not a fun gun to shoot. Full house .357 about wrecks my hand. I'll stick with .44 Specs in my BBBG.

Seriously though, the 3 inchers are compromise guns - too long for a snubby, too short for a service revolver.
Maybe if you're going to own just one, but who of us does that?
I bought mine some years back at a good price because it does look cool, but then couldn't figure out exactly what to do with it.
It's heavier than a 2 inch K frame for concealed carry, and not quite as easy to shoot at the range or in IDPA as a four incher.
So mine ends up as a house gun cause it fits in the lock box I use better than a 4 inch revolver.
Still, I wouldn't sell it unless I was broke.

My first two 3"-ers - a new 696 from 1/03 followed a bit later by my 3" 63 11/10, shown sporting some 60 Pro stocks:

Somewhere, back around the 696 acquisition, I bought a PR airport security guard 3" 65 - unused, except as a wheel chock (It was scratched - cleaned up nicely externally - innards looked unused!). I custom fitted some rounded fg Hogue wood grips to my wife's hand, and it was hers. She hated it. I sold it - she 'acquired' my 2" 10, bought new 9/03 ($280 - CDNN - also, a new 6" 66 $350 - those were the days!), put those fitted Hogues on it and declared it perfect - and hers! Gotta keep 'em happy!

BIG BUMP....wiping the dust off a great thread. Since my last post here, i have added a few to the collection...still have the 66-4 (on top).

Love the Pachmayr Compac Pro. I assume that's what these grips are. It sucks that they aren't made for N frames.

How long were the Lew Horton 24-3 barrels? It looks short in the pic above. 2.5? 2.75?

Hey all, this is my second post so please bare with me. I had shoulder surgery here about 4 weeks ago and decided i need something other than a semi auto for a carry weapon just incase I looked like a victim with my arm in an immobilization brace, since I wouldnt have the ability to " tap, rack, boom " if the need came. A couple years back I had a short barrel security six that I liked but it didnt shoot worth squat, so foolishly I let it go instead of adapting it to my needs. About 3 days before I went under the knife I found a used 64-3 for 400.00$ I went for it and found it in near pristine condition. About a week after the surgery I was able to put it thru its paces at my LGS. Even with the bulk of my brace I was able to draw and fire with easy and put the twelve rounds i fired into the face at 21 feet. All I can say is, its a keeper and will not leave my side even after I am healed. The only thing I regret is that I sold all the leather I had for a 3 inch barrel and I am playing hell trying to replace any of it !
Hey honeybadger, Robertsons has 3" K holsters for a good price. They list them on GunsAmerica. I got a used one for $24.
since the barrels are measured from the end of the cylinder, and the 24 has a shorter cylinder than say a 29, it makes the 3" barrel look shorter than the barrel of a 3" 29

Gersan69, thanks for the heads up ! I checked them out and as of right now it seems all he has is military repro's and LE surplus, but I will keep checking.

I have a 3" 66-2, a 3" 686 CS-1 and a 3" 696-0 and love them all. Just right for carrying. Perfect Packin Pistol.

I love the balance of 3" K frames as well as the asthetics. We'll soon find out if 3" J Frames are just as handy, I have a pinned barrel 3" RB 36 on the way from the east coast. The short list of S&W revolvers that I want to find include a 3" Model 13 and 3" Model 625.

I have a weakness for 3" S&W revolvers, too. Below is my old 10-8, which was my off-duty gun for quite some time when I was on the LAPD. It's still DAO and will stay that way. I recently put a set of "Collinscraft" RB stocks in nice walnut on it, replacing the battered factory PC stocks. Great carry gun.

That is one sweet 29-4 Lobo! Love that config. I have the same grips on my 3" 629 TALO, they are a pleasure to shoot with. Maybe not the prettiest girl at the dance, but she will make you feel good. I hope my wife doesn't read this post.....

I just acquired my 3rd 3" S&W, a 686+, to go along with my 65-3, and 620PC. I guess I need to get some pictures up, huh?
