FWIW to Michiganders -

Gander Mtn in Sterling Heights has a 3" Model 66 for $449 in their 'used' counter. Has the Hi-Viz green front sight. Looked very clean but I did not handle it. (It does have the IL.)

I hate them locks and don't own a S&W with one, but love a 3" 66. For that price I would buy it, remove the IL, plug the hole and slap on a gold bead front sight as them Hi-Viz sights are only good for target practice as they easily break.

You would have one fine S&W and could do it all for less than 100.00.

I already have a 66-5 3.25". I was thinking to give a heads up to anyone who might be interested, esp in the local area.

(Mine came with the green Hi-Viz sights. How difficult is it to change them?)

Was this with the ejector pin shroud?

Sounds like a good buy. Good luck

I am positive that it was.

(As I was looking @ it thru the glass of the used gun showcase, there was a mint-looking 36 behind it for $299. Gentleman came up, asked to see the 36, opened and closed the cylinder and bought it. :)

A 36 for $299? Wow... that's a deal!!!

A good gunsmith could do it for around 70.00. Fairly simple swap out. You could buy a taller Hi-Viz front sight, remove the tube and have it ground down to the correct height. Tom T did that with his beautiful 25 and it turned out great. An neat option to that is you could have the rear of the sight slightly angled. If anyone attempted to grab that barrel you could slice em up very well while you pulled the revolver back into your possession. If you wanted the gold dot for great visibility it would probably be about another 50.00-75.00. Having one installed on my Commanders front sight after shooting a buddies Springer who had one installed. I was very impressed with its visibility and was shooting that .45 with much better accuracy than mine which has a night sight installed just on the front sight.

If I just hadn't put out some big bucks and it wasn't so close to Christmas would love to take that 66 off your hands.

Them 3" 66's are the perfect carry revolver IMO. Accurate, powerful and positive ejection of the cases thanks to the longer ejector rod.

(Guess I am still 'virginal' in some respects:) )

3" 66-3 with an SDM gold bead front sight, man it doesn't get much better!

NICE! I gotta say them gold dots ate the best sights out there. work even in darker conditions. C&S will be installing mine in the Commander. I shoot the weapo much better with the gd than a Trinium NS. Your eye just goes to that dot.

Nice 6 sir and love the setup.
