3" Python With Range Report

I bought a 3" Python back in May and have had several issues with light primer strikes. I hope it's just a new gun issue that will work itself out. I really like it other than that. I do wish they did the high polish like the Elite Python finish of previous years.

The S&W 686 basically helped the Python go bye bye in the first place. I know nostalgia helped bring them back a few years ago. But the prices on the new ones are just nuts. I hope the OB enjoys his new Colt.
No, not really. The 686 was a lot cheaper gun and had nothing to do with the Python being fazed out, cost of production did.
Now with the advent of modern day CNC machining, the precise fit, the guns ability to be 33% stronger due to todays metallurgies and a more simplified trigger yielding the same feel are considered by many to be better than the originals. I certainly can't argue.

I have read that Colt did adjust the mainspring early on to address light primer strikes. Have you contacted Colt?

Funny thing... when the sales lady asked which one I wanted - the 3" or 4" - I said I wasn't sure, and that I'm sure I'd be back for the other one after a while....

Can you tell me about the grips on the 3"?

Those are called the "Service" grips and the 3" originally came with them, don't know why Colt didn't this time? Makes a big difference in the feel too.
fwiw, good decision btw, the 3" has always been the most coveted by collectors.
