30 Million in Cash stolen in L.A. area

According to the article, the theft occurred at an "unnamed" money storage facility that held cash from local businesses...

Hmmmm.... Why wouldn't 30 million be earning 5% interest? They're giving up $125,000 per month!

The only businesses I can think of that can't put their money in a bank are pot shops.

"Unnamed" money storage facility????

Sure sounds above question and reproach to me (rolling eyes).

Granted, it looked like little more than a warehouse. But either way it's security wasn't questionable...it was non existant.

Like a rotting mackerel in the moonlight, this situation shines brightly yet reeks horrendously.

Unless it all went immediately south of the border I am predicting that they will be caught forthwith. Either an inside job or opportunists who will start throwing cash around arising suspicion.

We recently watched the movie "Finding Steve McQueen" 2019 ". In 1972, a gang of close-knit thieves from Youngstown, Ohio attempt to steal $30 million in illegal contributions and blackmail money from President Richard Nixon's secret fund." Perhaps that might have been the inspiration for this heist?

Someone above mentioned the Dunbar Armored car robbery. This is a quote from the Wikipedia article.

On September 12, 1997, six men robbed the Dunbar Armored facility on Mateo St. in Downtown Los Angeles, California of US$18.9 million[1] (equivalent to $35.9 million in 2023).

19 million In 1997 Is equivalent to 36 million In 2024.

That means our currency is currently worth about half of what it was worth 25 years ago

Well for the last 20 of those we have gone in debt by over a trillion a year, 8 years at a bit over 1 trillion a year, then 4 that averaged almost 2 trillion a year and the current 4 year cycle keeping that pace will cause that.

Think of the money supply this way

At 33 big sheets, with 10 $100 bills a sheet, every second it would take a printing press 30 seconds or 1/2 a minute to print 1 million DOLLARS IN $100 bills, 500 minutes or 8.333 hours to print a billion and 8,333 hours or 347, 24 hour days to print one trillion. That is almost a year of non stop running at a rate of 330 bills a second.
We have averaged almost 2 trillion of debt a year for the last 6 years, So we are going in the hole faster than 2 printing press could make the money in sheets of 10 $100 bills apiece

But that's just fancy paper. I have paper and a printer, but don't have the magic power of mass hypnosis to make everyone believe my fancy paper can be exchanged for goods and services.

There's actually a history of thefts where the BGs went in through the roof. One would have thought that somewhere along the line someone would start installing alarm systems to cope with the issue. I'm aware of a theft where the crew had a couple guys actually doing roofing repairs during the heist.

I'd also bet on an inside person-not necessarily at the bank. Depending upon the age of the vault, weak points/design features of the brand may be known in some circles.

Of course it was an inside job

Some one had to know just where the money was, the alarm system and the construction of the building.

Armored car drivers as cash didn't just appear

Cash's owners or managers

An insurer(s) or agent(s)

Security company(s) members

Wife or girl friend of the above

The list goes on

I am sure they are chasing down all the cracks on the windshield now

More than one heist has been set up by the owner in order to double dip using insurance.

There may also be some bodies start showing up because someone may get greedy.

CNN did somewhat of a follow-up on this gig. Over the last 10-15 years there have been several Big Time jobs like this one. Per CNN there is one or more gangs working out of South America doing gigs like this one. Yes, they had to have inside help, to one degree or another.
