How do you tell a 3rd from 4th change ?? This gun is marked on barrel * 32 W.C.F. CTG *
and has S&W logo on frame.
SCSW gives Ser. # range of 4th change as 65701 to 144684
Reason I ask is that this gun's Serial # is 656xx which would put it as a high # 3rd or a low # 4th change. I am guessing, based on the barrel marking, that it is a low # 4th change but I really don't know how to tell for sure.
Thanks, Joe

You need to get a copy of Roys 1st book. That is the bible of
definitions about K-frame changes. I don't have mine with me
now. Perhaps someone will read the book for you, but if you are
an interested collector, you need that book.

Roy's book indicates that the 3d Change does not have a logo on the left side of the frame. The patent dates on the barrel would make identification easier, but would say you have a 4th change.
Hope this helps,
Bill

Bill, There are no Patent dates on the barrel, SCSW states patent dates were removed from side of barrels at time of 3rd change.
This gun does have the S&W Logo on frame so I guess it is a early 4th change.
Thanks for taking the time to check Roys 1st. book. I will have to keep my eyes open for that book. Joe
