I am trying to get hold of a new Trigger and Hammer assy for a model 1905 .32-20 Winchester Ctg. I have tried to order some from several gun supply houses but they don't have the right kind in stock (the trigger and hammer were too small. Any idea how or where can I get these. The S&W was my Great Grandfathers and is a 3rd change with a mfg date of Sept 14, 1909, serial # 53964. The double acting sear makes a clicking noise and is not a smooth transition when firing in DA mode.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and idea's.

As you may know, your gun is a K frame and those K frame parts for a .38 are the same as the .32-20s, depending on your serial number and when the gun was made, etc. It might be easier for you to have the current trigger & hammer rebuilt and fitted by a good gunsmith, then get parts that will have to be fitted anyway. Ed.

Exactly what is wrong with the trigger and hammer you have that they need to be replaced? BTW, the revolver would date from 1912-13 in the K-frame third change SN range. I am not sure if there was anything unique to hammers and triggers in the third change which would not allow substitution with the far more common and readily available K-frame fourth change hammers and triggers. In any event, that information might be helpful in finding the proper hammer and trigger. It's not necessarily true that replacement hammers and triggers need to be hand-fitted, as they frequently will drop right in.

As noted, the .32-20 K-frames did not differ mechanically from those in .38 Special, except for the caliber.

Looking for a hammer and trigger

Thanks for the quick replies. Good information. I tried to order from one supplier but I think the parts were for a 1903 model as they were way too small. I have tried to smooth the action by using an Arkansas stone (really smooth) but to no avail. This gun also made a slight clicking noise but it wasn't until I got on this site that I understood what is wrong. Now I will try for a new hammer (sear) as I think that is the real problem. Soo I will look for a K model replacement part. Thanks again.

There was a change sometime in the early years of the hand ejectors, date unknown to me, wherein the double action function was changed from being entirely off the strut on the hammer to one where the first part of the pull was off the strut then transitioning to a notch in the hammer below the single action sear. I don't know what the effect would be of mixing up the different hammers and triggers would be, but I would check for that first.

Presuming there is no difference between 3rd and 4th change hammers and triggers, a good source for them is Victory model revolver parts on eBay. You can usually find new old stock parts there.

We often used "Victory" parts to renovate the older M&P revolvers.
Found some that had a different diameter Hammer Stud in the frame, and either switched to "Victory" stud or opened the stud aperature in the 'new' hammer.
