32 Auto , any reloaders on here by chance?

I picked up a Lyman mould #313249 on clearance at a LGS for $10 this year. It is listed as LRN at 86 grains. But using wheel weights it is raw casting at 77 to 78 grains. If I went to one of the printing type alloys, it would be even closer to 72 grains. While you are wondering around gun shows, you might stumble into a reasonably prices mould!

I would like to try some heavier bullets that can chamber at an OAL of .970" or longer. The XTPs showed promising results and were less snappy than the 71s, they just liked to jam being loaded so short. That Lyman mold appears to have a profile that may work well loaded long. Any chance you could measure the overall bullet length and also mid-cannelure to tip length?

I've been collecting/storing lead for a while and keep threatening to start casting.

Here are the overall and driving band heights to two Round nose bullets in the size that might be of interest.

I have never loaded the 120RN in 32 ACP, but I've loaded it in 32 S&W Long, 32-20 WCF, 30 M-1 Carbine, 30 Mauser, and 7.62x39 Russian (I haven't tried it yet but I'll be loading it in 300 Blackout sometime too!)

I have loaded the old Lyman 3115 bullet 115 FN bullet in 32 ACP and all of the above (my mould has a Gas Check making it 117 grains) I have a hollow pointing tool that I drill out a 1/8" Cavity with, making the bullets weigh in the mid 90 grain weight. These 32 ACP's were for Derringers and never tried for function in automatics.

The mentioned "Hollow Pointing Tool" is an accessory for the Forrester Case trimmer and is available in 1/16 & 1/8 diameters. It has been very handy over the last 35 years!

You ask for a roll crimp cannelure height. I gave the band heights for tapper crimping. With 32 ACP being semi-rimmed you can do either. I found taper crimping more reliable for feeding because the roll crimp sometimes bulges the case just about the second driving band.

That 86 grain looks good. Might be able to load it to about .965"- .970" without much problem. I use the Lee FCD, roll crimp.

I reload 32 auto for my KelTec and shoot cast in it. I load the other 32's so I dose not matter to me. They are a fun gun to load with.For the OAL as long you can cycle the gun with a dummy round then just start with the min load and work up till the gun tells you. I size for my Keltec .312 and in my other 32's I size to .313 I also use the same boolits for light loads for my 30cals .Have them shoot like a 22lr. It works for me.

I load A LOT of .32 acp. I mean I load A LOT !! I have had a ton of fun and am really proud of the fact that I not only load it I make my own projectiles. Its almost impossible to find a actual 71 gr mould so I was able to buy an RCBS 75 and I also bought an Lee 2 hole mould and it was I think a 100gr and what I did was to take off the spru plate and I would file the mould down then re assemble and pour 2 bullets then weigh them till they hit around 71gr. It worked awesome. The prefabed Lee mould makes 71 to 74gr bullets at that point I HY-Tek powder coat them /size them and load. I use many different powders ut right now am using 2.0gr of Clays and it works awesome . I have loaded about 2000 of these thats how good they shoot in my Whalters PP .32 my Colt 1903 hammer-less and my Baretta pop up barrel .32 acp . All shoot the same load and all love it . I personally never shoot FMJ in my handguns 1 for price reasons and 2 because I can shoot any handgun all my life as much as I want to and never shoot the barrel out with cast as FMJ loads put a life expectancy on your barrels that you will never get with cast. When Cabelas had S&B primers for 19.99 a brick back in 2017 I was able to get 30 bricks per size primer so I am literally loading my cast bullets for 3.2 cents a round as my only expense is powder and primer. Thats 3.20 cents a 100. I can live with that . I hope this has a little info in it here and there to help others along the way even if it is an older thread ;-)

I'll a little light on 32 Auto handguns now, I down to 2 Davis Derringers and a Tomcat. Dad died since this thread started, I was supposed to get one of his Colt Pocket Hammerless' models, but his wife has disappeared all the family guns!

Here's a question for the more experienced. What's wrong with these cases? This is a first for me. Never seen this before.

Hit the range with the Guardian the other day and had several light primer strikes with Aguila ammo, only Aguila, however they all fired on the second pull of the trigger. Figuring it was probably hard primers, I wasn't too concerned.

I also heard a "thud" hit the target several times while shooting this ammo, and oddly enough the thud was a split second after the shot. I thought I was hearing things and my hearing isn't that great. Couldn't have been the bullet unless they were sub-100fps.

So today I deprimed all the brass. Comparing the primers from the Aguila with some Magtech, I noticed that most of the anvils were missing from the Aguila primers. Never saw this before either. I've had several fall out of the primers during deprime before but never this, more than half completely gone!

After the brass was tumbled and dry I whipped out my primer pocket cleaner and went to town. What the....., where the heck are the flash holes? The pocket cleaner went clear through the pocket and into the case!

I finally put two and two, and three for that matter, together. Here's the cause of the light strikes, and also what I was hearing hit the target. It was the primer anvils! I knew I couldn't be crazy hearing things.

Turns out that only seven cases out of the fifty had flash holes. The rest were, in the words of CW McCall, clean clear to Flag town.

So have you guys seen this before? The primer pockets measured the same as most others and there didn't appear to be anything different with the primers. I always thought the anvil had to be seated in order for it to fire.

Since I started this thread I milled a Lee C309-113-F rifle bullet mold and it's become my favorite 32auto bullet. I powder-coat and size to .312 and they are right at 73 grains.

Yes, I dealt with Aguila shortly after I had the issue and they sent me another box of ammo. All they wanted was a signed release of liability and the old cases sent in for inspection, lol. The new box all fired fine and the cases didn't blow the primers out like the problem ammo did. Those all reloaded fine and are mostly gone now as 32 brass seems to disappear more than any other. I've since ordered 5000 cases from Starline and been happily loading/shooting my Guardian, Beretta 81, Tomcat, and Zastava M70.
