32 WCF

I have a Smith & Wesson Handgun that my Dad and I traded for 35 years ago and I would like to find the history of the gun. It has 32 WCF cartridge on the barrel. It has patented dates of Feb. 8, 06 Sept 14, 09 and Dec 29, 14. The serial number is on the frame when you open the cyclinder. It also has a number under the barrel That starts with a B. It has the Smith and Wesson trade mark stamped on the side. I have never seen another Smith, but I have saw 2 that were made in Spain. Any history on this gun would be greatly appreciated.

The number on the frame where you swing out the cylinder is NOT the serial number. The serial number is on the butt of the revolver and should match the number under the barrel. The "B" preceding the barrel number means that the revolver was shipped from the S&W factory in blued finish.

The revolvers that S&W built came marked in different ways over the years. .32-20, .32 Winchester, and .32WCF were all used. They are in a separate serial number range from the more common .38 special.

Just under 145,000 were built between 1899 and 1940. .32-20s were not built after WW II. They were more popular in the years leading up to WW I. Many were sold in the southern Appalachians, the South in general, and in the Southwest.
