.327 Federal Magnum question.

I've been looking to purchase a .32 type revolver. I've looked at .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R Magnum and .327 Federal Magnum. I found in my research that the .327 can handle all the .32 type cartridges. If I bought a .327 and shot a lot of .32 S&W Long in it, would there be any damage to the chambers since the S&W Long is a shorter cartidge?

I suppose if you want a .32 there isn't anything wrong with getting one. The LGS here has had one in the case for (I am not exaggerating) several years. I am not sure about damage, but if you wanted to shoot just 32 S&W long I would probably find something else. If you wanna get a revolver that will shoot multiple rounds I think you would be better served by a 357. On the plus side .38 and 357 are super easy to find. Like Walmart.

327 is a great cartridge but there are limited platforms,
I have Ruger's in Blackhawk and Single Seven. Both solid revolvers.
I can recommend either.

Won't hurt the chambers at all. There will be some extra deposits in the chamber, easily removed with a 9mm bore brush chucked in a drill at low speed. If you take a combo of 32S&W L, 32 H&R Magnum or 327 Federal to the range, take a brush to whisk out the chambers. 32 cal revolver chambers get dirty pretty fast and will make chambering longer cases harder.

I really enjoy 32 cal revolvers. A 327 federal revolver can be loaded down to 22 rimfire levels like 1.5gr of Bullseye with a 90 gr. bullet up to some rousing full 327 mag loads. I've got Ruger Single Sevens in 4 5/8 and 7 1/2 barrels and an older pawnshop find Single Six in 32 H&R. I shoot mostly 32 S&W L and 32 H&R in them. 32 cal is also cheap and easy to reload. Accuracy can be outstanding and lightly loaded, the recoil and blast are so low that flinching is not likely. 32 cal is an absolute hoot to shoot!

I have three 32 caliber revolvers.

A 31-1 in 32 Long, a 431PD in 32 H&R Magnum, and a Ruger LCR in 327 Federal.

I usually carry the 431PD as it's very light (13.4 oz) and the 32 H&R cartridge is about equivalent to a 38 Special or Special +P depending on the load.

I will put the LCR 327 on my license at some point. The Speer 32 Gold Dot 115 gr delivers a bit higher energy than the Speer Gold Dot 135 gr 357 Magnum load -- a little over 400 ft lbs.

Plus it can shoot all the 32 long and 32 H&R ammo out there.

I don't carry it any more, but I used to carry the 31-1 with the buffalo bore 100 gr hard cast wadcutter loads.

Project 616 has been fed 32 ACP, 32 S&W, 32 S&W Long, 32H&R and 327 Fed Mag on the same day with nothing more than a quick pass or two with a bronze brush... if that much. Shooting shorter 32 rounds in a longer chamber is a non-issue, at least for me.

I saw a Ruger SP101 with a 4" barrel chambered in 327 Federal last weekend. It looked nice and I would have bought it but I was out of state.

Not that I'm aware of or experienced. As others have said, a quick swab with brush should take care of any problems.
I had a very nice 4" M30-1 that I let go at Tulsa a while back but kept 2 M16-4's, one which I had reamed to .327. It seems to like the 100 gr LWC in .32 Long as well as the H&R and Fed mag. The shorter .32 S&W and .32 ACP weren't as accurate although they did fire without a hitch. I'll post a pic once I locate it. Also and IMO, I would prefer the .327 for not only shooting the lesser rounds but also because it's currently my favorite revolver round for plinking. For factory .327 loads, the Fed. AE 100 gr JSP at a published 1500 fps are a hoot to shoot.

Or better yet, I have an good 4" M15 I'd use as donor frame so if ever come across a cylinder and no-lug 6" barrel, I'll make one.

I have a 631 that gets a lot of use. J Frame, adjustable sights, running 100 Gr. hard casts SWC and WCs at 1,000 FPS. Had LOBO make me a floral carved holster to my specs and it carries great. Several other .32s, but the 631 is my favorite. As has been posted, they will shoot a BUNCH of different .32s including .32ACP.

I checked chronograph velocity and my 71/2"does not gain much over my 51/2" or my 45/8".

Since neither me or my shooter buds have a chroney, that's good to know. Matter of fact, few even reload.
Have you measured the Federal American Eagle .327 mag 100 gr. JSP to see how close it is to the advertised 1500 fps?

I'd like to have a .32-20 cylinder for the M16-4.

The Federal American Eagle clocked a ten round average at 1498 fps over an Oehler 35P from my 5 1/2" Ruger Single Seven.

I went to a gunshow today and was able to buy a Model 631 4". It was unfired and the box, all paperwork and tools were in perfect condition. The toolkit bag was even still sealed. I don't know how to upload photos so no pictures. I want to thank everyone for their help in this thread. I'm going to look for other .32s and maybe start a small collection.
