.327? When did this come out?

Just wanted a quick answer on this and I know the combined wisdom contained among the Lounge contributors is enough to answer all of life's questions

What is the .327 based on/when did it come about/and if it is new, do you think it's here to stay?

I'm about to buy a .38 snubby for my sister and just saw this listed in a CDNN Sports catalog that just arrived, and shown in quite a few of the revolvers i've been considering...

Kind of shocked actually cuz I like to think I'm usually up to date on my gun stuff but I guess not.

I will research it but also trust and appreciate your input, thanks!

Seems like back in 07 or 08 Federal made this cartridge for Ruger. Not sure that it really caught on though.

came out a good while ago and its slowly gaining a following.
Im still arguing with myself about it. It seems a fine caliber for all your light wet work needs.

The.327 Federal Mag rips! It is a really nice round, great ballistics without the flash. boom and recoil of the 357 Mag.

No, from my experience and loading it is definitely not equal to the 357 Mag as Speer/Federal would have you believe BUT it is potent and fair better than a 38 +P plus 6 rounds in a J frame. In a rifle it is even better.

More than a 9mm +P 115 gr bullet from a revolver.

The .327 Federal Magnum came out early in 2008 through a cooperative effort between Federal & Ruger, which offered the first .327 chambered Revolver, the SP101.

I couldn't resist and had one by the summer of '08..

From what I understand, what drove this, in part, is that there had been much talk & anticipation when the .32 H&R Magnum came out in the early 80's and when it didn't perform as well as had been expected it was quite a let down.

The development of the .327 Fed Mag was one of those "back to the old drawing board" kinda things, although it took awhile. To me it was worth the wait!

So while it might be something I'll consider down the road for myself, it's probably not a substitute or better alternative than the .38 for women/new shooters then?

Not saying the .38 is a baby but I have found its recoil minimal in the scheme of things and thought it would be a could match for my sis...

Btw, any one have the hammerless style sbubbys? Haven't show one but liked the idea of a single action pull for accuracy at the range or if one had the time to pull it back in a SD situation. Of course DA should definitely be practiced more/as much if it's a self-defense gun I'd think

I've found the revolvers chambered for the .327 Fed Mag excellent for new shooters when using the .32 S&W Longs.

You can start out low, real low (.32 S&W) and work them up to the .327 Federal Magnum.

Here are the different rounds it will handle.
I've also heard that they will work with .32 acp, but I've never tried it...yet

There seems to be a small but loyal following for .32 calibers. I have never owned one so don't know the allure. But I really... really like the .41 mag.

I like the .327 but IT is not all that it should be in the 632.
I dislike the small handles as 1 &1/2 of my last two fingers hang off.
I have said this before---if I could find longer--and preferrably sq. handles it would go a long way to make the little 632 better.
As it is I will have a 14-2 reamed at some point---this WILL BE a fun and good shooter.

Yep, great little ctg. The 327 Federal Magnum(I call it the "F-Mag") has been out for a while now but it's not been as popular as it should be, same as the 41Mag. I really like the 41Mag and think it's actually a better "big bore" mag then the 44 but it just got NO love from folks so it's sitting at the back of the bus. Seems like the little F-Mag is suffering the same fate. People just won't give it a chance. This ctg. can give you 400 ft/lbs of energy in a snub revolver and even more if you give it a longer barrel(500 ft/lbs from what I've read) so it's much closer to the 357Mag then the old 32 H&R Mag was. Heck, the 32 H&R Mag didn't even quite hit 38+P levels which explains why it wasn't popular.
No such problem with the F-Mag, it's a great little ctg. that really deserves to be more popular then it is.

They even have an 8 shot Blackhawk single action, 8 SHOT, that's awesome. They're GP100 is a 7 shot and the little SP101 is 6. Yep, S&W needs to get on the stick and bring out some more guns in this neat little ctg. Wonder if they could get 9 shots in their N-Frame?

I held off from buying the SP101 since I don't like the rear sight on it one bit. Then I held off from buying the 632 since I don't like the power port barrel and want an all steel frame. So either Ruger is going to offer the new four inch barreled SP101 in .327 or S&W is going to get off their hands and make a four inch K frame in all steel and I will buy whichever comes first. Besides that, I'm the type that is dooming the .327 since I won't buy any of the current offerings for it.

I have a 442 much worn from carry and shooting. It is THE pocket revolver that never gets left at home due to bulk and weight.

As to single-action shooting with your defense revolver, DON'T.
An extremely well trained and practiced shooter can manage it under fire, but for the average person, it is an accident waiting to happen when stressed. Combine a cocked revolver with a finger in the trigger guard while looking for the prowler, and the shot is likely to be the wrong time and direction.

Does anyone know if laser grips are avaiable for the S&W J frame or the Ruger SP 101 that fould be a little longer than a boot grip; like another poster, I hate having 1 1/2 fingers hanging off of the bottom of the gun...

I don't have any problems with the cartridge; my wifes best friend has decided to get her Ohio CCW and naturally, what the best does, so does my wife...I'd rather be able to have her attend a CCW course wth an easily controled gun and still be able to "ramp up" the power as her skills and confidence increase. Not to mention that not all of us out there have a lot of strength to control recoil...I have a condition that (right now) is giving me a weakened ability to grip as hard as I used to be able to and hopefully will regain my gripping ability with with a couple more months of therapy.

That's something else about the F-Mag, you can shoot 32S&W(but I'd not because it's soooo short), 32S&W Long and the 32H&R Mag all in a F-Mag so you can get anything from mild to wild. That's one thing the 41Mag didn't have going for it, there was no shorter, weaker ctg. that you could use for practice. Yes, someone did, after the fact, come up with the 41 Spl. but it was just an after thought so they could chamber a 41cal ctg. in a gun smaller then the N-Frame.
There are just so many options with this ctg. that I don't see how it can't be a winner.
