Hey guys and gals, after years of working at it, my wife is finally going to get her first gun. When we met, she had never shot a gun and had no desire to. Long story short, I got her to shooting .22 rifles, then .22 handguns, and she likes it, especially rifles. She has also shot several of my K-frame 38's, but doesn't care for the recoil. So, the other night, she finally said that she would like to get her CCW. So here is the situation. She wants a gun that she can carry concealed, most likely in a purse, but I don't really know what to get her. She has shot my M19, and M10 snubby, but when she tried my 442...she did not like it at all. She said that there was just too much recoil. She wants to be able to shoot it some with me, just plinking around, but it needs to be a gun she can carry CCW in her purse. And....well....she likes the pink thing too. Naturally, I want her to get a Smith, but I may not be able to find one that will satisfy all her needs. And I will not buy her a gun with a lock on it either, not if I can help it. I don't think she cares whether it is an auto or revolver, but I like revolvers better. So I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter. Thanks a lot everyone!

My wife shots a 4" M66 and a Browning Hi-Power in 9mm. She has taken shooting classes and it has really helped her understand and enjoy her handguns.

My petite wife carries a S&W 351PD .22 Magnum revolver with Crimson Trace Lasergrips. It weighs less than 11 oz. and a .22 Magnum is nothing to sneeze at!

SKU: 170329
Model: 632 Carry Comp
Caliber: .327MAG
Capacity: 6 Rounds
Action: Single/Double Action
Barrel Length: 3" Full Lug
Front Sight: Pinned Serrated Ramp
Rear Sight: S&W Adjustable
Overall Length: 7 1/2"
Weight Empty: 24.5 oz.
Grip: Synthetic
Material: Stainless Steel Frame and Cylinder
Finish: Matte Black

Try a K frame loaded with wadcutters. This combo should have very little recoil for target shooting. For a carry load I would not want to be shot with wadcutters.

Also look at the model 60. Comes in stainless steel, weighs about 8oz more then the 642 and is much easier to shoot.

Make sure you let her choose the gun.

Show her lots of options, let her shoot them if possible, but let her choose.

If she likes your M-10 snubby then maybe one of those or a M-12 airweight frame snubby would work. Get the weakest target wadcutters you can find and get her a good fitting set of grips.

The 32 caliber is a forgotten about round nowadays, but is still a good round for some people. Maybe you could find a Model 31 with a 3" barrel for her. It is better than a 22 but has very little recoil.
A friend of mine has a Model 332 which is a very nice little gun.

My wife carries a M66 4inch in a pancake holster. She likes it very much and shoots it well. She is also fond of a M60 3 inch that I have. She started out thinking that she liked the 2 inch snubbies but soon found out thru trial and error that she shot much better with a bit longer barrel, better sights and a little more heft. She shoots 38+Ps.

All good suggestions. I think that the 351PD is a good choice but they are extremely loud to shoot. Also look at the .327 Mags that are starting to show up. Reported to have great power with less recoil then a .38. The 651 was also suggested. Hard to find and expensive but a great little gun.

I bought my wife a Kahr K9 9MM it is a double action semi auto that is very basic and easy to use, nice size and easy to hide, recoil is easy and it is a well made gun, they also make a polymer version also, but I went for the stainless one, check them out I think you will like them.

My wife has tried model 66, 19, 340PD, Kel Tec P-3AT, and Seacamp and she shoots them all well but she wants to carry the Kel Tec in her purse

My wife likes this revolver with 38special with Corbon 125 or she may have liked it for the deal I got. Her only request was pick out some new grips before we go out again. She is not interested in carrying (yet) but I think I will start looking for a 3 inch for her to carry when she travels.

I think that a model 60 3" may be a real good choice as her next one.
