That looks like a stock S&W pic to me. The pics S&W used in their literature a few years ago showed wood with good figure, like the picture. The stocks they actually send out seem to have wood with poor figure and color.
The stocks on my 329 look crummy enough I have had woodwoorkers comment that they looked like a photo veneer job (except they look too bad for that, no one would go to the trouble of photo veneering crummy figure).
My stocks looks like they have buried the wood in a deeply red tinted finish. I am tempted to strip the finish and refinish them myself.
Are grips for the 329 interchangable with the 327? Forgive my noobieness...
Thanks,
Jason
Good question, Jason.
I'm thinking your 327 and my 329 are both N-frame revolvers. I'm thinking the PD series also came in L-frame flavour.
Yes the 27,327,627 family of revolvers and the 29/329/629 family of revolvers are all N-frame guns.
PD revolvers were built on J, L & N frames. I do not recall a K frame PD. PD(personal Defense) just meant that the finish of the scandium was black instead of clear coat sliver looking.
Both grips pictured are Ahrends and not S&W produced grips.
Your 327 pic looks like it has round butt grips, while the 329 has square butt grips. The square butt grips look better, regardless of wood choice (in my opinion). What you want is an N-frame round to square conversion, as the 327 is a round butt gun. Look about 2/3 of the way down on this link. Ahrends Grips : S&W Tactical Grips
I believe that the "Square Butt Finger Groove" Ahrends are what are supplied with the 329pd. I think they are supposed to be cocobolo, but mine look more like Paduka or Bubinga to me.
