I've read that the 327 comes with wood and rubber grips but I'm not too fond of the wood they chose. I attached a pic of the 327 with a different wood grip that I think really compliments. Is this aftermarket?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

That looks like a stock S&W pic to me. The pics S&W used in their literature a few years ago showed wood with good figure, like the picture. The stocks they actually send out seem to have wood with poor figure and color.

The stocks on my 329 look crummy enough I have had woodwoorkers comment that they looked like a photo veneer job (except they look too bad for that, no one would go to the trouble of photo veneering crummy figure).

My stocks looks like they have buried the wood in a deeply red tinted finish. I am tempted to strip the finish and refinish them myself.

Yes, I think the red-tinted finish is a love-it or hate-it finish. S&W has the attached pic on their website and I prefer the one from my prior post...

Your first pic shows the same Kim Ahrends grips that came stock on my 329PD. I took those off, opting for Ahrends boot grips instead.

I have a pair if you'd like to add 'em to your collection.

Good question, Jason.
I'm thinking your 327 and my 329 are both N-frame revolvers. I'm thinking the PD series also came in L-frame flavour.

Maybe someone can chime in here... oh and to be clear, the 327 is a "wish list" gun... lol...

I will buy it, and when I do, it will have the same wood grip as the 329. Far superior (as far as looks go) to the stock 327 wood grip IMHO...

Yes the 27,327,627 family of revolvers and the 29/329/629 family of revolvers are all N-frame guns.

PD revolvers were built on J, L & N frames. I do not recall a K frame PD. PD(personal Defense) just meant that the finish of the scandium was black instead of clear coat sliver looking.

Both grips pictured are Ahrends and not S&W produced grips.

So they are interchangable.
Thanks for the clarification COLT! All good info.

Your 327 pic looks like it has round butt grips, while the 329 has square butt grips. The square butt grips look better, regardless of wood choice (in my opinion). What you want is an N-frame round to square conversion, as the 327 is a round butt gun. Look about 2/3 of the way down on this link. Ahrends Grips : S&W Tactical Grips

I believe that the "Square Butt Finger Groove" Ahrends are what are supplied with the 329pd. I think they are supposed to be cocobolo, but mine look more like Paduka or Bubinga to me.

I could not agree more regarding the square-butt grips. I scanned over the Ahrends website earlier and completely missed the (round to square) conversion info. Thanks for pointing that out.

This makes me wonder if the 329 is a round-butt that has a square-butt conversion or if it actually is a square-butt frame...?

The 329 is a RB gun, and it comes with the Ahrends round to square grips.

Outside of the Classic models, I don't think S&W makes any SB N-frames anymore (but I could be wrong on that).

Thanks K1500, I guess this might have been obvious to most but being new here, I wanted to make sure this was the case. Thanks again for your insightful input. It is very much appreciated.

Jason

Both the 327 and 329 are round butt N frame revolvers. My 327 came with the orange/pink tint painted Ahrends grips. After removing the tint to real wood, they did look like the picture. Not real pretty. Opted for Special order oil rubbed maple Ahrend Combat with grooves for control of that 24 oz wheel gun with full 357 loads. Sure is fun to shoot. You will love it!
