340/342 Weight difference

I've recently been looking for the lightest non-exposed hammer J-frame since I pocket carry.

I understand that the 342 is the lightest Centennial ever made. However, what I don't get is why it is lighter than a like 340 (titanium cylinder models).

They both use the J magnum scandium frame, a titanium cylinder, and two piece barrel. It seems if anything, the 340 would be lighter due to the tiny amount the chambers are cut deeper. But, when I look at published weights, the 342 is always .6 to .8 ounce lighter depending on where you find your figures.

Where is the .6 to .8 ounce difference? I'm missing something for sure.

342 has larger flutes on cylinder than the 340, so more material is removed.

Thanks, I noticed the flutes are wider towards the front of the cylinder on the 342, but I thought the weight difference couldn't be that much.

Oh well, the search continues. Even considered buying a 342 M&P and replacing the cylinder, but that won't even get me there. Wish I had known about the Numrich titanium cylinders way back when.
