Hello All,

Here is an update on my 340PD "testing".

I sent off the 340PD to S&W for a trigger enhancement where they lighten up the trigger pull and smooth it out. It cost $102.00 ($88 for the work and $14 for return FEDEX shipping) and took 5 weeks from the time I sent it off till I received it back from S&W. The only notice I got from S&W was an automated phone call from FEDEX telling me a shipment was arriving the next day and someone 18 years or older needs to sign for it.

I took the 340PD out to the indoor range yesterday to test it with the trigger enhancement. The trigger pull was noticeably easier and smoother which helped my groupings, especially with one-handed shooting. I think it is definitely worth the time and money to get this enhancement.

I also put on a Pachmayr Gripper Decelerator Grip (#14553) on my 340PD. Gives me a much better grip than the factory grips or the Hogue grips I tried earlier. I can still carry it easily in my Renegade ankle holster and my Lobo Gunleather Pancake OWB holster. The grip does not interfere with concealability.

I shot three different Buffalo Bore loads to test the trigger and grip:

1) 38 SPL 150 grain Hard Cast Wad Cutter (#20D)
2) 38 SPL +P OUTDOORSMAN - 158 gr. Hard Cast Keith (#20H)
3) 357 Magnum - 125 gr. Jacketed Hollow Point (#19G)

I use Federal American Eagle 38 SPL 130 grain for range ammo. I can easily shoot a box of 50 rounds with my hand and fingers not hurting.

All four were very manageable with the trigger job and Pachmayr grips. Right now, I have the wad cutter in the 340PD and a speed strip of the Outdoorsman on my belt. The 357 Magnum is in a SL Variant speedloader in my EDC bag.

For everyone who is considering buying the 340PD, but have been hesitant about the recoil, a trigger enhancement, the right grips and the right ammo make for a solid combination.

My solid combination is described above and obviously you may already have a combination that works for you, but if you are undecided on the 340PD, perhaps the above synopsis will help in your decision.

Hope this helps and saves you time.

Cheers,

Richard in Plano, TX
