Several years ago, I bought a 342PD used. It appears to be unfired outside of the factory.

Actually, appears to be brand new, NOS. Packing is still intact. Original docs, case and box are almost untouched.

But...

It has a small 'dent' on the top. It's really not bad. I flooded it with light and magnified it.

So, the question is. What can I do with it? Can something like this be repaired? If so, would it even be worth the cost or time?

I bought it to carry, but it's absolutely mint (other than the obvious) so I just kept carrying my old 642.

That little nick on an otherwise flawless revolver is like an itch that bugs me.

What would you do?

Thanks for your opinions!

I would touch it up and carry/shoot it. If it bothers you that much, get rid of it.

Odd, I looked at my M&P 340 and saw the same nick at that point on the frame. Must have knocked it against something hard. I reloaded it and placed it back in the pocket holster. "Ain't no thing but a chicken wing!" ;)

I've HAD both guns = 642 & 342Ti & without a doubt you can tell the difference in weight between the two while pocket carrying..
With that "Dent" I would put it to work & would touch it up with some black paint..
I don't think dropping it would make that impression IMO..
Doesn't weigh enough..
I'd guess RH Hip carry & fell into a rough concrete wall Hard

Here's another vote for keeping/carrying it; touch it up if it bothers you. I've been pocket carrying a 340PD for several years and you can't beat them for comfort & convenience. I predict you'll regret selling it for lots of reasons, the least of which they're hard to come by & VERY expensive.

Thank you for the opinions. Looks like it's a shooter.

Most of my range time is with a 642 and some with an M&P340. I can tell this one is really light, even compared to the 642.

Is it noticeably harsher to shoot than a 642?

Grind it down, get out the bondo…oh wait, that is for a car ding. Never mind! Just carry it and shoot it.

I found an old pic of that revolver along with two 940s & the 642/942, Mine was a AirLite Ti, Not a 342PD..

Get a file and roll it over, maybe even on both sides, then get the Alumahyde and touch it up. Many years ago I bought a new Gold Cup 45. I carried it when I was a cop. The sharp edge of the rear sight was hitting the inside of my righ arm, so I just got a file and knocked the edge off of it. It's a working gun, they are gonna get beat up.

Hmmm. 2 mentions of alumahyde. I like the idea of that and a small file.

It only bothers me because the rest is pretty much new and unfired. It's like that first scratch on a new car.

Thanks.

Carry it shoot it ding it up some more and the original insignificant mark you pictured will blend in.
