I got a call from the machine shop just morning. The lower end is complete. But the heads are still being worked on. He ordered some guid plates and told me it will be done soon. He wanted to know if I wanted to pick up the block, rods/pistols and crankshaft.
He gave me a combined price tag. Let’s just say I called my boss asking for overtime right after I hung up
Hopefully I will have it running this time next month. I just need a intake, distributor and water pump. I have a guy that’s going to sell me Cleveland brackets, pulleys, a bell housing, big block leaf springs and a vintage Holley carburetor. I have never had so much good luck with this car in years

Years ago work took me to Cleveland, asked a guy at airport where the old engine plant was, said right off road leaving airport. Drove by in rental car and sure enough sign was still up but all closed, sad, really sad.

I don't know what the stock cam will handle but you should be able to use a 650 to 750 CFM carb.

I bought a complete carb rebuild kit only once! About 400 small parts, the performance shot did let me return it and apply the full price to a brand-new carb. On rebuilds: where the linkages pierce the body, many times the holes are so worn that even with new gromets, they leak way too much air! So, to me, any used "Vintage Carb" is worth no more than the core charge!

The carburetor is only 20 bucks. 650 Holley. I’m running a entire comp cams kit

Back when I had me 69 SS 396 Chevelle it would cut out when racing with a 650 Holley. It ran perfect for street driving thou. I kept a 780 Holley in the truck and would swap them out a lot.

The only gas that car ran right with was 260 Sunoco.
