I had to kind of mix and match to get as close to load data as i could. What difference will it make to substitute 140gr JHC Sierra's in place of 140gr Hornady XTP's? Also can i substitute CCI small pistol primers for Winchester SPM primers. I am loading 38+P and 357mag using the above mentioned Sierra bullets,
CCI 500 sp primers, and Hodgdon Tightgroup powder if anyone has used this combo i woul love to hear the outcome.

I've loaded those bullet weights and brands, and mixed WW and CCI primers No detectable difference in pressure, accuracy, or ease of ejecting cases. I would suspect the same for your Tightgroup loads.

By the way, it is sort of a fallacy to think that we can load "+P" and "+P+" loads from data books. We have no way to measure load pressures or access the powder lots used by the ammo makers. We can only load for velocity with a given bullet and approprimate the factory loads.

mnhntr,

When you are loading hot,it can matter a great deal. The Sierra bullet has a longer shank and when you seat the bullet to it's cannalure,it seats deeper in the case than the Hornady bullet of the same weight.

This is not being critical of Sierra bullets ( I use them all the time)but it answers your question.Different bullets from different makers will give different pressures and velocities even though they are of the same type and weight.
