It probably shipped in 1955-56. What barrel length (measured from the front of the cylinder to the end of the barrel), finish-blue or nickel, type of grips?

I looking at .357s in my collection:
S137180 Shipped Sept 1955
S138564 Shipped May 1957
S138845 Shipped May 1956
S139191 Shipped April 1955
S139563 Shipped July 1957
S139693 Shipped July 1957
As you can see, S&W did not ship their guns in serial number order, but if I was to guess, your 6" Blue 357 SN S139407 probably shipped sometime in 1955-57.
