I plan to use the Lyman # 358156 Gas checked SWC with 2400 powder . Old load was 14.0 gr with OAL of 1.590 . Will this OAL chamber in the shorter M 27/28 's ? I seem to recall you had to use a shorter OAL & crimp over the front driving band in these guns . Also now days they say use a std primer with 2400 . Do you get a complete burn with a std primer ? If I use a mag primer & have to reduce OAL to chamber , should I reduce charge to 12.5 - 13.0 gr. ? I tried 2400 with a std primer in 45 Colt . Did not get complete burn . Reminded me of the old Unique " freckles ". What say you guys ?

Not sure about the OAL question, but in regard to magnum vs. standard primers, I have never used magnum caps with 2400, and haven't noticed any problems. Historically have probably used more CCI 300s than anything, although recently have been using more Federals. Sometimes there's more difference between brands than there is between standard/magnums. I'm sure others will have opinions as well.
