.357 Mag Load for Hog Hunting Suggestions?

Shot placement is key on hogs. Behind the ear/neck area offers one of the largest target areas on the hog with the biggest margin for error. The bigger the margin of error, the better. because they are constantly moving when they are feeding with their rooting. Or they are running full-tilt.
Personally, I can't imagine using a handgun at more than very close ranges because they are difficult enough to hit with a rifle! Light recoiling rifle rounds like .223, .243, 7.08 are perfect for behind the ear.

If I was going to use a 357, it would be a solid and preferably fired from an 18-20" carbine so I go get the velocity way up there.
Geesh, I thought everyone knew that wild hogs are armor plated?? and the minimum caliber is 44 Mag, even those have been know to bounce off. (Much like 9mm for self defense!)
Minimum of SW 460 or SW 500 Mag, 454 or the like.
Best to go with a rifle like 45-70- or shotgun with slugs.!

My brother shot a nice one like mine with a 180gr nosler partition out of a 308. Punched right through its shoulders. The momentum knocked it over but it got up and started running at us. I was thinking you have got to be kidding me. I would have never believed it if it hadn't happened. I would opt for the larger calibers even if it just means that thing isn't gonna get me.

The ones here in the South ARE armor plated in the front - they rub on those pine trees for pitch and that frontal area is like wearing body armor - hit 'em in the head.

I'd pick the heaviest LBT style WFN or LFN gaschecked bullet that is accurate from your gun . Even over the Keith SWC . Try to get 1,200fps if you can safely . I also agree with behind the ear or break both shoulders bullet placement . Beauty of the LBT design is they have good shock , wound channel & give enough penetration for raking shots . All that said I use a 41mag , RBH for short heavy cover & Henry lever for longer shots .

The rounds chambered in this picture have worked great for me, until Commifornia banned lead for hunting. Beartooth bullet (LBT 180 grain) at 1200 ft/sec (forgot how much H110) Fills the chambers in the 627. Might not fit in revolvers with shorter chambers.
Last boar I got with that load was about 250# and hit it a little further back than I wanted. Aimed just in front of shoulder but he quartered away as I was firing.. so it worked out well.
